My friend started the process to get a green card with the help of his boss in 1996. He completed the initial application, but had to leave to his country for a family emergency. He tried to return last year crossing the border and immigration caught him. Now he just came here with no problem. Can he continue the process he started to get his green card? What is involved and will he have to pay a penalty?
