Temporary Resident to Permanent Resident/US Citizen in Mexico
I live/work in Mexico and in Aug I can become a permanent resident. However, I have a big issue with my last name. IMSS has my last name as the name on my birth certificate, but my U.S. legal name is my married name. I plan on asking a U.S. judge to return my original birth name but I do not know when to do this; before I get the permanent resident card or after, which means I would have to pay for the permanent resident card again - they are expensive if you are making pesos only!! Can the Consulate help me with this problem? I was told that I might be able to process my permanent residency paperwork 6 months before Aug. 1 at the LR Consulate office. Thank you.
