I collected my passport 20 Dec 2017 applicant today with positive response.Thanks team for your support and encouragement.Above all i thank almighty God.
Please note that the system at SA side is very intelligent. When your new passport is scanned, the system retrieves every information on your new passport, runs search function for matching details. If there is a ban on the Old passport, I am 100% sure that it will be picked in the system.
You need to write to SA Home affairs explaining the reason of overstay, it can be lifted if sufficient evidence is provided. Or else you wait until the ban expiration, but still you need that letter from SA Home affairs stating that you are no longer undesirable.
I had the same issue, but my ban was lifted in August 2017. I got a new passport, upon entry the ban on the old passport was picked. I gave them my letter from Home affairs and was allowed to enter.
Good lucky, but the old passport will be picked.

@Lulu give your passport to omalayitsha or the chicken bus drivers bayakulungisela lokhu ngizinto ezincane. Cant mention names here but ask your friends they will refer you. Next time lungisa kusaseyiOverstay ngoba nxa sekuyiBan you are looking at over 1,5K Rands. Getting a new passport is not a solution for you right now, the embassy route might frustrate you also.

Yes it will be detected, there is a thread here last year about that. The only way is to apply to get the ban lifted.
