Does anyone know how to answer the phone at this place?
I had heard that it was impossible to reach anyone, bur the day I called someone answered the phone. I told her I needed to schedule an appointment to renew my cartao de cidadao and my passport, she told me the person that handles it was out but she put me on hold and and then set up the appointment.
I had to renew my cartao de cidadao before I could renew my passport, I was told it woult take 2 weeks and to call once I received a letter from Portugal letting me know the card was ready. I received the letter two weeks ago and have left numerous messages and nobody calls back.
I'm traveling is 3 weeks to Portugal and don't have my documents becayse nobody seems to work at this place.

renew passport
A lot of people are complaining and me too about the lady who pick up the phone when she feels like, she not there to help but to try to make you look stupid, she has a attitude, she's nasty.Who tell me my passport was not delivered by DHL ( I had to pay more for that)because I wasn't home and I need to go to NEW YORK to get it.I ask if she could mail it to me she said no( and I payed for that)I call DHL they said my passport was still in transaction. Know I would like to know how a person like that still have her job it s a shame.

very bad experience with this place, and everyone else I speak with, tells me the same. they take forever to answer the phone, totally impolite and always answer your questions with an attitude, people this unpleasant should not be working with the public.

É uma vergonha termos pessoas deste genero a representar o nosso país.

No problems with reaching anyone - Great help
I just called at 3PM EST, someone picked up and helped me, very politely, with my question on how to apply for dual citizenship. Thank you!

Chamei hoje has 3 horas da tarde e nao tive problemas. Ajudaram-me com as minhas perguntas em 5 minutos. Muito obrigado!

No response to phone calls
I have been trying unsuccessfully for the past 3 days to call the number listed 212 221 3165 and NO ONE picks up the phone no matter if you call as soon as they have opened or later in the day. Its the same message that you have reached the Portuguese Embassy situated at the address and please call later, I remember a few years ago they were so prompt and nice and always answered the phone. What has happened> Need information about renewing a passport

Portuguese Consulate in New York
My experience was very similar to the others reported here. Wrong information on website; unanswered phone calls; rude welcome and unnecessary questions and remarks. The personnel was not friendly, very poorly trained in customer service, and not at all knowledgeable! I had to fly in from Michigan and they tried to send me home saying they were too busy even though I was the only one there at the time. Furthermore, I felt like a total foreigner and not a Portuguese citizen. May I suggest passport and ID cards service by mail or on line? Other wise it is an expensive and time consuming process which makes Portugal look like a very underdeveloped country. Maybe I should change nationality!

Wrong address??
How is it possible for a Consulate to have the wrong address on the Web site????
Unfortunately, it's all downhill from there.
