Thank you for providing that valuable insight into how the CRC operates. Very interesting. Wishing you and everyone here safety in these troubling times.

I think India has far more to go through than Portugal as my friend in Portugal considers our liberty to some degree that we have in leaving our homes to be the same cause that led them into the current crisis that they are in. We have already seen the Nizamuddin case. They are already deep into it while India is just entering into it.

My barrister group handling my case work in Lisbon as well. Initially when a case date is reached, the case documents are "reviewed" and after reviewing (to verify if the case is genuine etc.), the case is registered (such as into their registry of births). That's what I take reviewing to mean.

My friend from Portugal was saying that since the CRC is still operating, they must be working from home, which agrees with what my barrister said that they are working under closed doors, just reviewing cases, but not registering them into their records. I hope this clears the confusion.

Pela misericórdia de Deus,
Ezekiel

Completely agree that health and safety are the first priority. Could either of you clarify what it means to be reviewing cases but not registering? Thank you.

To Ezequiel
Also, Portugal is likely to be hit much harder in the upcoming weeks by the coronavirus.
The right decision in that scenario would be to shut the entire registry down and only process essential cases. (Which fits with what my lawyer said is currently happening)

Yes, that’s what I was told by the lawyer handling my wife’s case.
This doesn’t directly affect me as I already have citizenship.

Hopefully he’s wrong and they’re still processing cases already submitted.
However all his previous updates have been correct and his offices are located right next to CRC Lisboa (On the right side)

To everyone
As Angela rightly put it, please concern not yourselves with the Portuguese registration process as this is an awful moment. Portugal is suffering far worse than we are in India. But just to put everyones mind at east,I've recently verified with my barrister in Portugal that the CRC office not attending to the public, but they are still working behind closed doors , so cases will still be reviewed/decided in due time.

They are still reviewing cases. As soon as they are opened to the public again they will immediately resume registrations. So yes, registrations are temporarily halted, but the reviewing process is still in progress.

They have reached mid February twenty nineteen for post sixty one cases.

May God's protection be upon you all at this horrendous time,
Ezekiel

Jack, have you verified that the CRC has completely stopped registering cases? I haven't verified it with my advocate but their schedule shows their update accepting cases for registry. Though I would like to know if your update has been verified.

As for keeping a backup country, that's without question as it is true that brexit appears to be heading on full swing with the UK due to end their transition period by the end of this year, with or without a deal.

Correction COVID
Just wanted to announce that the three thousand was incorrect. The webmaster must have been updating the database at that time. The correct figures indicate India has had another hundred extra cases, bringing the approximate total to about one thousand ninehundred from one thousand eight hundred

To those wanting to enter the UK
If your birth isn’t yet registered it’s imperative you look at a backup country to immigrate to considering the current Covid situation in Portugal.
The registry is currently only processing emergency cases.
They also aren’t reissuing/issuing passports, cartao’s and driver’s licenses until thirty June twenty twenty.
Boris has stated he’s unwilling to extend the transition and if he follows through, free movement would end in Britain after December.
