Be Aware AMSIC Scam Doing the Rounds
Posted by Ashleigh Telford on January 20, 2015
The Maritime Union of Australia and the International Transport Workers’ Federation have been made aware of a scam targeting people with promises of cruise ship jobs and asking for money to secure these jobs.
The potential victims as asked for money upwards of US$300 to secure a non-existent Australian Maritime Security Identification Card (AMSIC), or for work permits.
This is a scam, as neither of these items are required to work aboard cruise ships that call into Australia. There is no such document as an AMSIC, however there is an MSIC, which is issued by the Office of Transport Security.
Only Australians, permanent residents and those on a visa qualified to work in Australia have to apply for MSIC cards to comply with port security. These are not issued by the Maritime Union of Australia, nor the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
The MUA is aware some of the scammers have fraudulently appropriated the union’s logo in order to add legitimacy to the scam and the documents which targets are urged to fill in look official.

People should remain vigilant and skeptical of people who require money to be transferred by wire services particularly to countries in West Africa. The majority of targets have been asked to wire money to the Australian Maritime Union office in Guinea.
The MUA only has offices within Australia. If you think you have been scammed please refer to your local law enforcement. For more information on MSIC cards and how to obtain them, please contact the Office of Transport Security: +61 2 6274 7111 between 8.00am and 5.30pm AEST Monday to Friday, or via email.

Best Regards,
Herbert.
I have applied for work at a tourism and hopitality cruise line. The issue now standing between me and the job is the fact that I have to pay for ALCC fir my visa to be approved. I need to know if this the order of Australia or a scam. I need a job so I can't miss the opportunity but I can't spend money on something I am not sure of its legitimacy. What is the truth?
i was told that i will pay nothing.
our application for Australia Maritime Security Identification Card (AMSIC) has been received in our office, before we can complete the processing of your Australia Maritime Security Identification Card (AMSIC) the fee must be received in our office.
The purpose of this Card is to ensure that all individuals who will access these zones have had a background check performed, it shows that the holder has met the minimum security requirements and needs to work unescorted or unmonitored in a maritime security zone, also to confirm that they do not pose a risk of causing trouble while staying in the commonwealth areas,
The fee for your two years Australia Maritime Security Identification Card (AMSIC) is USD$465 (Four Hundred and Sixty Five Dollars) Including FedEx Courier Service fee that will be used to courier your AMSIC to the Australian Immigration Office. This money must be send to our office through WESTERN UNION or MONEYGRAM Money Transfer with any bank in your country that has Money Transfer facilities for urgent receiver of your payment.

Hello sir, I was given an appointment by Princess Cruise as a computer technician but was asked to pay $465 for AMSIC to an individual in person of Mrs. Wilson Maria Magdalena in Conakry via Wester Union instead of the company or government account before my working visa could be approved. My question is that could this be a scam?
After receiving a pre-contract agreement from afric Recruitment on behalf of rio tinto, i was told to pay a fee to an indipendant immigration, for visa processing fees, usd 385. After some research i can conclude that this is a scam and people who are approached must be careful.
I also received the same email, and they told me to pay an amount of 375$ to the maritime union office in Guinea. thank God I listened to the little voice inside because I almost paid it.
