Cartao de Cidadao- Long form
Hi there, I am looking to get the Cartao Cidadao through ancestry (my mum's Portuguese). What is this "long form" certificate that is required?

Also, given the proper documents that are collected, how long does this process take?

Some people don't deserve their jobs!
I've been to the Consulate and the atmosphere there is the same you feel when you've been waiting for too long in a waiting room at the hospital not knowing
of the news we are going to get are good, bad or so so.

Portuguese Consulate in Toronto
I cant believe that with such a big and still growing Portuguese community theres only one location where people can get paper work done in or around the GTA !

i mean really whos in charge of this crap and look at your line up and wait times EVERY DAY .

plus do you guys think that you could work till 5 as opposed to 3 30 , that is ridiculous bunch of lazy asses .....

and still when people get there they give attitude as if we were minority, well excuse me if i need to have you or anyone else in here get me a passport done , as
if i wasnt paying for it ..........

to whoever is in charge of things there , you Mr. or Mrs. need to apply somewhere in the west end of Ontario to open a new location , for people who live in Waterloo and further west to get these kinds of documents done

Has anyone had their Cdn baptism certificate legalized by the Portuguese consul?
As part of the process of becoming a PORTUGUESE citizen, my sister (Canadian) needs to have her baptism (and her birth cert) legalized by the Portuguese consul. Has anyone gone through this? Any advice? I wonder if I (the sister) can do it on her behalf.

Shame of the Toronto Portugeuse Embassy
Hi I am an British citizen with close ties to Canada with close friendships with several Portuguese people. one of my friends is experiencing frustrations similar to all these stories of rude arrogant and unhelpful staff at the Toronto embassy.
Can I suggest those who feel so strongly that this office is not working to the good of hard working people some with problems requiring help quickly and efficiently that everyone write to the Lisbon Consulate General in Lisbon with their complaint. If many voices are raised something may be done .

good luck
PS Portuguese people are warm kind and loving people unlike the staff found in the Toronto embassy.

Expect a Run Around
For over a year, my family and I have been trying to transfer property which my dear father left us in Portugal. All I can say is Thank God I'm a Canadian citizen!! The embassy here gives you 50% of the information only to have the Portuguese government officials to tell you, you are missing the other 50%, for which you have to return to the embassy in Toronto, pay extra service charges, and oh, wait again, and still not get the full story. VERY FRUSTRATING. My advice: parents, sell your property before you pass away or transfer your property before you pass away. I once debated investing in property in Portugal but not now. No Thanks, I will stick to Canada.

Definately not a true representation of ALL portuguese people
As a Portuguese person I have been to the Consulate in Toronto various times, and yes they are arrogant at times and seem to hate their job. So for anyone that is reading this that is an employee at the consulate, Shame on you for giving us all a bad name! However, you cannot judge or generalize all people of this ethnicity to be the same (as "Bethany" mentioned above. I'm concerned she's based her opinion of Portuguese people on a history lesson?). All in all, I see the same type of attitude in Toronto's government service workers on a regular basis and I find it extremely sad. And as a Torontonian who loves this city, I don't think we're all the same. In addition, the Portuguese consulate's website should definitely also be in English. It's unacceptable that a country as advanced as Portugal where so many people speak English, and it being situated in a major Canadian city, that that has not yet been made available to all.
