Don’t cancel the Aadhar Card
FYI, aadhar card cannot be cancelled or deleted since there is no provision as per the aadhar act as of now, so whether you apply for oci or no, nothing can be done to delete it or cancel it. It will remain lifetime in the UIDAI database.
Go ahead and cancel the voter ID and ration card to be safe.
Don’t cancel the Aadhar Card.
The OCI website only requires the surrender certificate, proof of Indian origin (surrendered Indian passport) and a valid visa (if applying in India). You then submit these copies to the FRRO along with a demand draft for fifteen thousand
If we apply in India for OCI, do we need cancellation of these documents?
Yes, technically you have to cancel the voter ID and Ration Card (not the Aadhar Card). But they don’t check this for the OCI.
Most Indians naturalized in the US etc don’t come back to cancel these documents and get the OCI abroad.
Do you also have to get the adhar card, ration card and voter id cancelled as suggested by some people here in this forum? Thank you!
