Once you get a Portuguese passport you get an EU passport. Just like you dont need a visa to visit India as an Indian passport holder, you dont need a shenghen visa to enter Europe as a EU passport holder.
Upon surrender of your Indian passport, you can apply for a visa to continue stay in India + in parallel apply for your OCI card.
You need to check who is the application authority in your country where you will apply from. So if you are in Mumbai, you would need to apply through VFS. If you are in UAE, you would need to apply through VFS. If you are in Mongolia, you would need to apply through the consulate as VFS doesnt operate there. This is just an illustration to help you understand.
Once you find out who the application authority is, visit their website and you will see very clear instructions and guidelines for the documents needed.
Generally below are required:
- Passport copy
- Bank statement of last 3 months. (there is nothing specified as minimum balance or anything, you just have to demonstrate you have the financial means to support yourself)
- Letter from employer
- Invitation letter or confirmed hotel booking.
- Return Flight ticket.
For the last 2, I suggest you visit a travel agent and make a dummy booking so as not to lose money in case your visa is denied. Or you can also use booking.com and select one with free cancellation anytime.

Secondly, Dont think fiancee qualifies as spouse ... Unless it is a live in relationship and you can prove it.
Can anybody tel me what is required to apply for spouse visa? I am a Portuguese citizen and want to take my fiancee.. what are the requirements?
If we make Portuguese passport we have to surrender the Indian passport.
Then they give us a visa which is valid for 6 months.
What visa is it? The Schengen one?
