Movie: The Interview
Dear DPRK Representative Kim Ju Son,

I regret the recent movie appears to be interpreted by some individuals as an insult and/or threat against Kim Jong Un . . . the Supreme Leader of the DPRK. My opinion is the quality of the movie is so poor that if there were no public reaction from DPRK officials few people would have interest in paying money to see this stupid movie . . . and it would quickly have disappeared from the movie theaters with no one caring. Instead, the Sony Motion Pictures attack created headlines around the world that draw attention to this movie, causing many people to pay to see it out of a misguided sense of patriotism or worse yet curiosity about what would motivate such a strong political response. There are many movies made that insult and/or threaten national and international leaders . . . most of which do not appear in the headlines . . . because they are ignored. My suggestion is that in the future it may be best to ignore this kind of political provocation . . . because any public response only gives a movie more credibility.

My apologies to DPRK Supreme Leader . . . and to you . . .

Dear Ambassador,

I write to draw your attention to concern raised by Amnesty International during the past week regarding human rights in your country.

It appears that some four or five months ago two young people, one called MOON CHUL, were put to death in North Korea while seven others were consigned to Kaechon prison where they are likely to suffer ill treatment.

Their crime, it seems, was to have left the country illegally last year.

Amnesty appeals to your government to make public the fate of all nine and to release those currently in custody.

If any of them are to remain in prison, Amnesty asks that they be treated humanely.

Finally—and more broadly—Amnesty also urges your government to make it easier for North Koreans to travel abroad if they so wish.

I hope you will pass this plea on to the government in Pyongyang.

Marshall Kim: I believe that your people will agree that the time has come to refer any problems regarding human rights that are presented to you by a committee to the North Korea Supreme Court in an effort to stop what may be found to be abuse, and also in an effort to train staff to help persons avoid becoming involved in bad things that must be avoided. The best thing to do, in my opinion, is to simply place a task force assigned with human rights recognized by the United Nations to work. If there are problems, then this task force should communicate its findings to The North Korea Supreme Court so that the Judges Panel can decide on a course of action. This task force might find some problems. However, I simply do not know myself. My advise is simply to put an investigative task force involving human rights to work. Religious Formation
First, I want to thank your administration for releasing those who were formally placed in prison. Second, I wish to advise all that religious formation is not acceptable by some government military approaches and must be avoided. If a person is advised to pursue this method of international diplomacy, then such advise should be questioned. Thank You Marshall Kim. I appreciate the release of these persons.
