I am very sorry to hear about the passing away of our JKA Karate Do Shihan. We remembered him in our prayers and observed a minute of silence in his honour.
Please accept my sincere condolences and find below our words about him.

3rd May 2009

A Tribute to Shihan Hideki Okamato

We are most upset to hear about the passing of the great karate ka Shihan Hideki Okamato. Shihan Hideki Okamato was the JKA representative to the Middle East, Arab and Africa . In this capacity, he has done a great deal to introduce Africa to the international world of Karate. In the case of Ethiopia however, he has gone well beyond the call of duty and done his utmost to raise the standard of karate in Ethiopia . He awarded the first ever JKA recognised examinations in Ethiopia , and granted one third dan and several second and first dans.

Shihan Okamato was a true father to many karate ka all over the world and we would like to express our profound sadness and express our condolences to his immediate family and assure them that he will always be in our hearts.

Let us observe a moment of silence in his honour.

Shihan Hideki Okamato is one of the greatest contributors to Ethiopian Shotokan Karate. He enabled Ethiopians to get internationally recognized dans and taught us the true skills of JKA. It was with great distress that we learnt of his passing away. In order to pay tribute to this honorable Master, we had a minute of silence at the Japanese Martial Art Katate Do, Kendo, Jujitsu, Aikido Solomon Kebede Karate Dojo Demonstration held on May 3 2009. Shihan Hideki Okamato's nearest Student Mr Bouraui Reda also came to Ethiopia on the 9th and 10th of May 2009. He gave us traning on both days and during this training we practiced four of the Kihons and one of the Kata that were the favorites of Shihan. We also agreed to dedicating 10 minutes of our training sessions to practice these kihon, kata Sochin and kumite technique in memory of the great Sensei. From the bottom of our heart, Solomon Re.Okamoto Karate Dojo members pray that Okamoto Sensei's soul may rest in peace.
