Seeking to use trip to Peru in place of my return ticket at end of visit
I read that I can come as a tourist to Ecuador for 90 days, with the possibility of getting permission to extend an additional 90 days. Since I'll need my U.S. passport and a return plane ticket, may I simply come with a ticket to fly next door to Peru upon the completion of my 90-180 days living in Ecuador? I won't be returning to the U.S. any time soon, and am seeking a South American country to retire in. I don't want to tie up money in a airline ticket back to the U.S. that I won't be using. If I decide not to settle in Ecuador, I will go directly to one of the neighboring countries to live for another 90-180 days. So, is a plane or even a bus ticket to Peru an acceptable exit strategy when I have to leave Ecuador?

Info
I'm Ecuadorian living in the US for the past 20 yrs. I'm trying to get my status straighten up. My attorney says since I only have a birth certificate as an identification. I would need a passport to gather the rest of any evidence (paper work) to assure my stay in the US. How much is the fee for a Ecuadorian passport? What do I need to show to get one? Please, I need this info asap. I want to be an American citizen more than anything. Anyone can help please email me pennyce112@yahoo.com. Thank you!

Going as a tourist, remaining as employed
If someone goes to Ecuador as a tourist but chooses to
remain in the country and get a job, do they have to leave the country or could paperwork, visas, etc. be processed within Ecuador?
Thank you.

Question re: 6 month visa
We went to Ecuador for 6 weeks in November 2012. We now want to go back in May for 6 months. Does the time we spent there already count against the 6 months or is it 6 months in a calendar year?
