SERVICE EXPERIENCE
I and my family have been registered at the Cape Town Consulate since 1979 and have had to travel 450kms from where I live to be assisted by them on many occasions. I have never had a bad experience with any of the officials. I have found them always very heplful just overworked and UNDERSTAFFED.I have always been treated with respect and efficiency. It is a pity though, that the visa interview for applications take so long for non Portuguese. There should be a more efficient and speedy way for issue of visas, because many people that otherwise would visit Portugal are put off by this. I thank the staff at Cape Town Consulate for the good and friendly assistence which my family has received over the years.

Please assist...even if just with concrete info
Good Day

I am hoping someone could give me advise/information or point me in the right direction with my daughters registration.

I am a dual ( South African / Portuguese) citizen and have applied for my daughter to also become a dual citizen seen that she was born in South Africa. We have been given an opportunity to emigrate to UK and need to be there in January ( exact date we plan to fly would be the 10th Jan 2018)
I have gone through the Portuguese Consulate in Cape Town to get my passport etc up to date and after quite a bit of backwards and forwards was told that i need to register my daughter before i can apply for her Cartao de Citidade, which i did in April . Somehow when i decided to go into the office to double check on things in October( and finally got her unabridged birth certificate from our home affairs) i had to apply for her registration from beginning as they had no records etc. Which I did after much frustration.
The problem is that after MANY phone calls i have been told that nothing has been done on her registration and it is sitting in Lisbon awaiting to be approved and they cannot do anything until this has been done. I am in absolute panic as we will obviously still need the time to get her cartão do cindadão and her Portuguese passport ( which i was told i cannot do cartão with out registration and i cannot then alos apply for passport without the cartão do cindadão) and we obviously need her passport to book flights etc.

Is there anyone that can assist with this situation at all or any wa i can speed up the process ?

Your assistance is much appreciated.
Thank you
Maria

Cartao de Cidadao
Good Morning.
My Cartao de Cidadao was applied on the 12th Of August 2017... up until today (09/11/2017), i still haven't received anything... and I need to apply for my Passport to go to Portugal on the 4th of December.
every time we go to the consulate, staff are very unhelpful and sent people away... today i phoned and lady does not want to help ...
my point is ... we are Portuguese citizens as well, so why such a feeling that we just here to bother them... Every time we are sent away like stupid people that doesn't know or understand anything... not every Portuguese person living in South Africa is ignorant.
I suggest the Consulate to employ staff that is prepare to to deal with clients in a more decent manner.

Marriage registration
I need to book an appointment for a marriage registration.

The online booking system does not give Cape Town as an option and Johannesburg is fully booked until January.

What do I do? Urgently needing to register my parents marriage and then still need to register my birth once that is completed.

UNFRIENDLY AND UNHELPFUL
I tried to make an appointment for a visa for myself and my family - a total of 4 people planning to travel to Portugal from 3 - 18 July 2017.
At first, the website did not work as you only get 2 options for centres at which to make appointments, namely Durban and Johannesburg. The Cape Town option did not come up. The phone number on the site is not valid.
Upon phoning the Portuguese consulate in Cape Town, the phone was answered by a very unfriendly and unhelpful official, Althena (?) (not sure as she told me if I had any problem with the level of service I should contact the Consul.) Her advice/ help was that the earliest date for an appointment was 18 July 2017. When explaining our ticket dates, her response was that we should then change the dates, which we are unable to. So I guess no Portugal.
Really taken aback by the service and lack of helpfulness.. The experience took away any excitement that we would have had in visiting Portugal as the message that we got certainly was not welcoming.
