Subject: Harassment, physical abuse and mental torture
It was in the month of March when Percy Oseghale Okuofo had come to my house with all the Legionaries. He wanted me to join the legion of Mary. But I and my sister did not join it. After that when my mom and sister used to go to the compound we use to meet him there talk to him and we became friends. He knew my family background. And then after some days he proposed me, which I agreed as I found him descent in his talks and dressing. As days passed he told me that we should get married. I hesitated and said I will think about it. But then he told me that he would be a support to my family members i.e. my sister, mom and my granny, since my parents were divorced. He knew that my dad used to harass us. Thinking about all this I agreed to marry him on 29th April 2009 without my parents or anybody’s knowledge at Mantra lay. I did not know that my this mistake of marrying him will actually make me face a lot of problems in the future because he would always say that he wanted to marry an Indian girl and continue live in India. Later on I realized I was trapped. After marriage I was not staying with him because he told me that I should stay with my family and when the time comes he would help me in telling my mom about the marriage and then we would stay together. After two days of my marriage I got my periods. He told me that he wanted to meet me. Hence I went to meet him in his house at Santa Cruz. He told me that he wanted to have sex with me, for which I denied. I made him understand and also pleaded to him, that I cannot have it since I’ve got my periods and I need some time to get physical. But he got angry with this and he forcefully raped me. That was the day when I lost my virginity. I couldn’t tell this to anyone and neither could I lodge a complaint since my family’s name would get spoilt and my mom is high diabetic. He knew my weakness. In June 2009 I joined IIJT to do a 1yr course into accounts at Andheri. There also every time he used to blackmail me. He used to forcefully take me to his house and if I denied going with him he used to threaten me that he will show the marriage pictures to my mom and the people in my locality. Then in the month of June 2009 I did not get my periods. I understood I was pregnant. He started screaming at me and denied that the kid was not his. And then he forcefully took me to a hospital at Amboli and then there I was given anaesthesia. I did not know what happened to me after that. After 3hrs when I came to my senses he told me that the abortion was done and a copper T was put in my uterus by the doctor. Before the abortion, sonography was done in Santa Cruz. I did not want to put the loop but again he threatened me. I couldn’t take it anymore, because 5 to 6 times he forcefully took me to his house and physically raped which I did not expect from him. Hence, from the month of August2009 I denied going to his house. I informed him that if he wants he can tell my mom that I’m married to him, but I’ll not sleep with him because he used to rape me in a drunken state. He used to take away whatever money I had with me in my wallet. Form that day onwards I never stepped his house. As days passed, things became worst, I then decided to work somewhere so that I could then concentrate my mind on something else. Later on I got a job in WNS on 15thFebruary2010 which is at Vikhroli. While I was working there he used to even follow me till my work place. I used to be scared of him, since he used to make havoc on the road and mentally torture me. I then told my team leader to give me company till the work place from the station. Later on Percy started blackmailing me with the sonography reports which he had taken out before the abortion. He wanted money in order to shut his mouth. Three months I worked in WNS, and then I used to give him my entire salary so that he does not inform anyone. When my mom used to ask me for my salary, I used to tell her that I’m on training period and I’ll get my salary once I hit the floor. I left that company because he used to always stand at Sandhurst rd. station or Vikhroli station drunk and abuse me. One day he even tried entering the ladies compartment, but then the ladies screamed at him and asked him to get down. That day I got so scared that I reached work late. Then in the month of 18thjuly2010 I joined Respondez which is at Vashi. There also he did the same thing. He used to frighten me to come to his house. He used to always threaten me that he will do anything to my sister if I don’t give money. In this way he owes Rs.50000/-. Because of this I can’t even go anywhere because he follows me everywhere and makes tamasha on the road. I can’t even make friends, because he frightens me and tortures them against me by sending messages on their mobiles. Percy even tells my friends if they keep friendship with me, their life would be in danger. He even ran away from the Santa Cruz house, since he did not pay the rent there. Then he came to stay in one of lodges in my area. There he was asked to vacate the place because someone had complaint against him. This we came to know when he called my mom that day late night. Then he took a house at vashi and called me up saying that he has seen a house at Vashi and he wants me to come and sign the papers. He did not even allow me to read the papers. But because the landlord was there I signed it and walked away. According to my knowledge, I feel he has taken the house on my name, because he did not allow me to even read the papers. As much as I could I started being away from him. After three months of his stay at vashi, the landlord called me up and asked me when I am going to pay the rent. So, I informed him that Percy is the one staying in that house, not me. But the landlord said that Percy is saying that she is working so take the money from her. Because of all this tensions I changed my number because he used to mentally torture me. On 30thDecember2010 he sent a letter with one of the church members and told her to give it to me not in front of her mom. I went to her house and took the letter and in that it was written that he wants a divorce and some formalities to be fulfilled in order to take a divorce. My mother saw the letters and called him up and shouted at him for sending those letters. Yet I was not able to tell my mom anything about the marriage, and mother thought he was blackmailing me. I was scared and hence immediately I went to call his father to tell him everything, but his father was not at home, that was what his mother said. Because of all this I even changed my number. Then one day when I was with my friend at vashi I saw him. He caught my hand very roughly. I was in pain. He made a big scene at Vashi station. He even hurt me on my finger for which I was bleeding. He then later on sent many dirty messages on my mom’s and sister’s cell that I sleep with men. And that day he even threatened me that he will go to any extents to get proofs against me so that my mom throws him out of the house and then he would use me and sell me. On the 22ndJanuary2011 I called him up on his cell, to tell him to return my money which he owes me. But then he denied saying that he does not owe me any money and said do whatever you like because your just a small rat front of me. Many times he even told me that he would kidnap me and then sell me off for the sake of money and no one would even have a clue that he was the one to do it. On 24thJanuary2011 I had gone for some work to Andheri with my sister. There I saw him at the station. He showed me an envelope and threatened me saying that the marriage proofs and the marriage pictures are in the envelope and he would show it to my mom. He even threatened me saying that tell your mom to keep lakhs ready. He is even blackmailing me with money. I got very scared that time. I was even in fright that what will I tell my mom and how will I tell it to her that my this mistake of marrying Percy has ruined my entire life. From the day I married him i.e. on 29thApril2009 I am staying with my mother. My food, clothing, shelter and education are given by my mom. All my expenses are also done by her. He never sent any money to me. Instead he used to take whatever money I had in my wallet. He knew it very well that my mom is high diabetic and a high blood pressure patient. And she cannot take tensions. But still one day he came to my house in the month of December2010 and told my mom that he dreamt that Tina has fallen out of the train. He used to come to my house once in a while. Because he was my friend my mom used to talk to him. Since she was unaware of the marriage and the problems that am facing. But whenever he used to come to my house I used to always walk out of the house. He would often call me up and threaten me by saying that if I married anyone, he would create problems in my life and he would be the one to use me. My mother treated him like a son but he took advantage of her, got me marrying him, raped me, tortured me and harassed me mentally, took my money and blackmailed me. On 22ndJanuary2011 Percy’s mother called me up and screamed at me on the phone saying that if anything happens to her son she would I not spare me. She threatened me saying solve things on my own; don’t involve parents into this matter. She was not ready to listen to me. She went on screaming and cut the call. That same night I took courage and spoke to my sister because things were getting worst. On 24thJanuary2011 my sister and I spoke to my mother about the marriage and the problems that I was facing. She cried bitterly and asked god that she wanted to die. On 25thJanuary2011 I went to the hospital to remove my loop, but the doctor said that she cannot remove the loop, since the copper T was of a low quality and it has got rusted and puss is formed in the uterus. But still I forced the doctor to remove it, but she said that if she removes it, the puss will enter the phelopean tube and then you will never be able to conceive again. She told me that I would need to undergo medication. She gave me some medicines and now I am under her treatment. From the time the copper T was inserted, everyday one or two drops of blood would fall. I could feel the weakness in me. I informed the doctor about this, and even told her that my periods are irregular. So she told me to do a blood test and said the cause of irregular periods is because of the rusted copper T.
