Bear Parks
Dear Excellency

I am writing to express my concern with regards the welfare of bears in Japanese bear parks.

I urge the Japanese authorities to carry out the following actions:
Provide support to the bear parks to develop naturalistic enclosures which allow the bears to express natural behaviours and contain sufficient space and material to allow behavioural enrichment. Enclosures should be built following the standards developed at sanctuaries for brown bears and Asiatic black bears globally.
Develop protocols under the supervision of a veterinary surgeon that is familiar with current practice in the care of captive bears, to ensure the condition, health and behaviour of all animals is assessed regularly, and a record indicating changes to the prescribed diet, health checks carried out, any unusual behaviour or activity or other problems, and remedial actions taken.
Develop initiatives to provide capacity building training for members of staff to recognise abnormal behaviour and clinical symptoms of illness and develop the knowledge of the diets, husbandry, and enrichment procedures required for the bears in their care.

If these conditions cannot be met I urge you to close the bear parks and support the humane euthanasia of these bears.

Yours sincerely

bears should be free or at least in natural habitat like they are used to Please have some compassion for these bears and give them a better life than they have at the present No animals should be made to suffer for human greed and entertainment I thought the Japanese were a more caring people than this obviously I was wrong

The Slaughter Of Dolphins at Taiji - a letter to the Japanese Embassy
Note: There does not appear to be a current valid e/mail address for the Japanese Embassy in London. Perhaps it is not a wonder, given the subject matter below:

Subject: Please pass this letter to the Consul, thank you

Dear Sir,

It is with the strongest condemnation that I feel obligated to write to you about in respect of the treatment of dolphins in Japan. Please would you take a moment to watch the following video at this link, the content of which you may not have been previously aware of:

http://thecovemovie.com/WatchTheTrailer.htm

In the video you will see clear irrefutable proof of the most hideously cruel live butchering of dolphins, whose carcasses are then further butchered and sold as 'whale' meat to various food distributors, to end up in supermarkets, falsely labeled.

The mass killing of these beautiful, intelligent and harmless species is yet another scar on the international image and indeed reputation of Japan, and the Japanese Government. It is quite possible that the majority of Japanese people do not even know about this vile crime and if they did, would be as horrified as anyone else.

It is difficult, if not impossible, to watch the video and not feel totally enraged, hugely disappointed and revolted that in this day and age, a nation such as Japan can permit such an indecency and crime.

In closing, may I point out that the agony and suffering of these creatures is plain to see, and yet the individuals involved in this repugnant atrocity show no mercy and no sorrow.

The assumption that animals are without rights and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance is a positively outrageous example of human crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality.

I trust you will take immediate action to raise this issue with your Government ministers, and those that should be acting in the prosecution of those involved and that this activity will be outlawed immediately in Japan. In the meantime I am raising a campaign on Facebook.com and signatures will be sent to your Embassy in further protest.

This matter will not 'go away' and myself and many, many other people will not rest until this vile and unnacceptable practise is stopped for good.

Of course, neither myself or anyone else holds you or your staff, nor the majority of decent Japanese people in any way responsible for this matter but clearly, those who are responsible must be brought to justice, and this act must not be repeated in 2013, nor at any other time in the future.

Wishing yourself, your staff and their families Christmas good tidings, and that 2013 will be a happier year for Japan - not least the dolphins and whales that your countrymen remorselessly and illegally persecutes.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Andy Martin

stop the unecessary cruel slaughter of dolphins in japan
we should all avoid purchasing japanese goods then maybe the financial implication will draw attention to those in power to stop this slaughter. Allowing this cruel act to such beautiful helpless animals is a bad reflection on any country heads, DO NOT BUY JAPANESE GOODS UNTIL THIS STOPS|! otherwise we are encouraging an economy who condones such acts,

STOP the slaugher of Pilot Whales & Dolphins at Taiji, Japan.

The Mass killing of Pilot Whales in Taiji, Japan.
Please intervene to stop the mass killing of Pilot Whales in Taiji. These innocent creatures are much valued and needed in our Seas and we do not support Japan's actions in these killings.

Yours from the Heart,

Shocked
As someone has already mentioned above, I have been very disappointed and upset by the way I have been spoken to by the staff whilst trying to obtain a visa.

Whilst applying in person I was made to feel stupid and a mere annoyance, whilst the man I spoke to on the phone was just downright rude to me and I was practically made to feel like a criminal because I had simply phoned up to ask what documentation I would need. I actually hung up because he was practically shouting at me. A simple confirmation of what documentation I needed to complete my application would have sufficed. I am very confused and upset by the behaviour.

I have worked in a lot of customer facing roles, and even when staff have bad days, polite manners are not difficult to possess.
