Australian applying for a visa in Paris
Hello, Bonjour…

I am writing to ask if you can give advice if an Australian Citizen can apply for an Indian visa whilst visiting Paris.

Am asking on behalf of my daughter Irie who has been in the US for some months, and recently purchased tickets from NY to Delhi via Paris, then home to Australia. The flights are booked for the 12th April.

Irie has been denied an Indian visa in NY due to her travelling on a ‘tourist visa’ in the states. This has astounded her and even the Indian High Commission in Canberra, who has made contact with them to ask what this is about.

I have had numerous phone calls and emails from the Indian HC and they are also wondering why this is the case. They have sent emails and waiting for responses. This has been going on for over a week now and time is running out.

irie was advised to go back to Australia to get her visa for India. She has physically been to the embassy twice, done the online applications, printed them out etc, but still a no. She was given a name and number to contact in New York, via the Indian HC in Canberra and there has been no connection made or calls returned. We are all a bit stumped. To say the least, she is quite distressed about this, especially financially.

We had another idea, that she change her flight to stay in Paris and organise her visa in Paris. This would be cheaper than flying back to Australia and then onto India. The idea was to travel to India en-route to Australia. The plan was to fly to Paris, meet her friend in Paris and fly to Delhi together.

Can you confirm that it is possible for an Australian citizen, that is travelling through, with no fixed address in Paris, to be able to organise a visa for India. I have some friends in Paris that she might be able to stay with, or she can organise accommodation elsewhere if friends are not around.

If this is possible, can you please advise soon and let us know how long this could take. Appreciate a prompt response, as she will need to change flights very soon.

Thanks for your time.
