PROJECT PROPOSAL TO THE BOTSWANA GOVERNMENT: TO IMPORT LPG - LIQUID PETROLEUM GAS - PROPANE AND BUTANE
Ministry of Trade & Industry

Dear Minister & Permanent Secretary

There exists an opportunity for the Botswana government to directly import LPG (Liquid Petroleum gas) Propane and Butane at a permanent 50% discount price from certain overseas suppliers/countries compared to what South African oil refineries supply LPG to their distributors. This will be despite the added road or rail transport costs from the coast to Gaborone. Needless to say, such an initiative by the Botswana government will be the cause of huge employment and business opportunities in Botswana and surrounding areas, since all households, business and industries desire an alternative to expensive electricity. Herewith, the facts about the gas industries of Southern Africa:

Natural gas, methane and ethane- the "dry-gasses" are the only varieties of gas in Southern Africa produced from drill holes, and because of its particular properties, cannot be made available in containers to households and small business such as in the case of LPG.

Gas drill-holes in Southern Africa produce negligible quantities of Propane and Butane and the approx. 99% Methane and Ethane can only be deposited in pipelines such as in the case of Europe and the USA.

Propane and Butane, the so-called "wet-gasses" in the Republic of South Africa are available only from the oil refineries from crude oil an sold in containers of various sizes to individual consumers, business and industry.

Sasol imports huge quantities of Methane/Ethane gases via a pipeline from Mozambique and supplies gas to industries and households via pipelines installed a long time ago when it was still economically viable to do so. However, only certain parts of South Africa are serviced by Sasol's gas pipelines - areas east of Johannesburg. Sasol has no plans to expand gas pipelines to the rest of South Africa and to individual households, since it is now too expensive to construct such pipelines. Also, LPG, viz Propane and Butane in containers is a much cheaper option for individual households, industries and business than the Methane offered in pipelines.

The cost and price of electricity in South Africa has soared in recent years and there is a huge migration to LPG gas by households, business and industry. Although the South African crude oil refineries of the major oil companies are now charging a lot more for LPG than before, despite the drop in the world crude oil price, is it still presently a much cheaper option than electricity.

AJ Stander & Associates have studied the LPG situation in Southern Africa over a long period and are prepared to make all information available to appropriate officials of the Botswana government after normal business agreements have been entered into, i.e. Memorandum of Understanding, Confidential and Non-Circumvention Agreement, etc.

AJ Stander & Associates desire a consultancy fee in accordance with the norm and the option to participate, as well as acquiring shares with the Botswana government in the venture. Presently are Botswana's consumers of LPG as well as that of countries to the north, i.e. Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo expensively supplied by South African distributors of LPG. The Botswana initiative could take over that role and also supply Johannesburg and the Western part of South Africa as well as Namibia with all their LPG needs.

AJ Stander & Associates are aware that neither the Botswana government, nor private enterprise have already contemplated a similar initiative as herewith proposed and such a proposed enterprise will only materialise once entrepreneurs are familiar with all the relevant facts.

AJ Stander & Associates suggest that the Botswana government undertake a formal pre-feasibility study immediately after a meeting with appropriately qualified officials of the Botswana government.

Conversion of Botswana Driving Licence to a South African one
I submitted forms to my local vehicle registration office only to be told that the accompanying letter from the Francistown Traffic Department stating the my licence was a true and valid one is not sufficient for a changeover to a South African licence. I was informed that a similar letter must come from the Botswana Consulate/Embassy in South Africa. Please advise on the procedure. My email address: zorro@telkomsa.net

NEED OR NO NEED VISA WITH FRENCH PASSPORT FOR A VISIT IN BOTSWANA
Good day,

I am a French national and my friend is a Canadian.

We would like to visit Botswana for few days. Do we need to get a visa at the entrance (Airport in Botswana) with our respective passports. If we need a visa to go there should we get it in South Africa at the Consulate General or at the entrance in the country. If a visa is required, how much it will cost for one entry??
