We received our number though Iran to pick up our visa!!

I wonder if I need visa to visit Iran.
I am invited by the Shefa Neuroscience Research Center to participate in the Annual Road Safety Congress, which will be held in Tehran, Iran on 18-19 February, 2014.
They informed me that I do not need visa to enter Iran.
I wonder if this information is true or not.
