Australia and others - Beware of scammers
I am so sorry to inform you that this man is likely a scammer. The brief information you shared is classic. I was very seriously scammed out of my life savings. I had never heard of "catfish" or "romance scammers" before 2014. I fell "hook, line and sinker" for this guy I met on Match.con. His MO was similar - he said he was from the US and UK and in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a job. As I now know the man calling himself "Dwayne Hodges" does not exist and I wired money through his contacts (mules).

From my research about these types of scams; whether it be receiving packages or wiring money for a "fake" crisis these men are able to get to us. I felt like I was under a "spell" and did everything he ask of me. As the story went I sent him my savings to help him and enable him to leave KL and come to my home town. He stole my money and broke my heart!!!

As it turns out if you go to YouTube or Google and search words like "romance scammers Malaysia" or "419 scams Malaysia" you will get an ugly introduction to the types of scams taking place. Unfortunately, I was probably courted by 1 man, and a collection of fellow scammers. You may also want to Google "Nigerian romance scams". From my research there appears to be a lot of "fake" students getting visas from Nigeria living in KL, Malaysia. They sit in internet cafes and work full time at scamming people.

The 419 scams have many twists - similar to the scammer you are dealing with. You may want to check into YouTube, Google and Facebook for "Yahoo Boys". A lot of the evil Nigerian thieves are known as Yahoo Boys. On Facebook I have noted the Nigerians in Malaysia are living a much better lifestyle then the boys in Lagos, Nigeria. Visas only last 11 months so unless they marry Malaysian women they come and go. There are hundreds of thousands of scammers now preying on nice, innocent people online.

Please everyone that is questioning whether your new "love" is real or whether to invest in anyway do your homework. If they send you pictures try going to Google and do an "image search", try to find them on social media sites. If they send you IDs like drivers licenses or passports check them out for authenticity. Be smart and trust slowly. Best of luck in 2015. I hope more of us get smarter and realize the scams these evil criminals are committing and we try to STOP this crime!
