Dear Sir/Madam,
Integrated Development Organization (IDO) is a non-government, non-profit making, non-religious and non-political voluntary organisation. IDO emphasises the development poor and disadvantaged people, especially the women, disabled and children. It was established in April 01, 1993 with the initiation of some like minded young energetic, educated and developed social workers under the leadership of Md. Mizanur Rahman, a well known social worker of Jessore District, who is involved in social work for long time. From his long experience, he established IDO and has been working in the remote, coastal, boarder, mangrove, water logged and rural areas for the targeted women, disables and children, as they are the main victims of all exploitations, deprivation, negligence and violations. It is also emphasizing the aborigines, low caste Hindus, untouchables etc. of the working areas, because, there are many such kind of people are living. The project areas are Jessore, Satkhira and Khulna Districts covering 17 Upazillas, which are situated the southern part of Bangladesh, closed to India, the Bay of Bengal and Sundarban Mangrove, which are remote, backward, hardship communicated, which is highly poverty areas in the country as per the statistical information due to water logged areas, coastal areas, mangrove areas and boarder areas and also highly disaster prone areas. It was duly registered with the Department of Social Services and NGO Affairs Bureau, GOB and also the member of different National Networks, Coordinating NGOs, and Forums. IDO has been operating in 534 villages of 65 Unions of above-mentioned Districts. The main activities of IDO are: survey, study, research, awareness raising, institution building, capacity building, capital formation, child and adult education, employment and income generation, rural handicrafts, PHC, water and sanitation, social forestation, human rights education, legal education, democracy education, prevention of HIV/AIDS, women violence, drug abuse, trafficking, legal aids, disabled children development, disaster preparedness and management etc. and the main donors are: RABOBANK Foundation-Netherlands, OECTA-Canada, The Mercury Phoenix Trust-Switzerland, VGIF-USA, UNDP, DFID, EC, OXFAM-GB, Arannayak Foundation, DNFE, Bangladesh Bank etc. and local contributions. Already it has organized 25,250 men and women members into 1225 small groups, whose' savings size is Tk.43,65,000/- approximately. These groups are civil groups, education groups, health and nutrition groups and savings groups.
IDO already has developed a good reputation in the areas as well as with the local administration and govt. departments for its good activities and has become well accepted among the people of the working areas. The project areas is very poverty stricken, remote low-lying water logged, riverine and highly disaster prone, river erosion are very common in the areas due to the bank of the dangerous rivers Kapotakkha, Betna, Harihar, Badra, Shailmari, Buribadrah etc. through which Indian water comes with high flow and destroy the standing crops, which has result high poverty, because, most of the people are illiterate and socially unconscious, who cannot afford for their own development. In the working areas, about 55% low caste Hindus, aborigines (Munda, Baolai, Maoali etc.), untouchables (Cobbler, fishermen, sweepers, kabra, bera, patua, sanake charmers,) etc. 15% Christian and 30% Muslims are living. The main professions are shoe polishing, making, sweeping, washing latrines, dead body burning, fishing, agriculture activities, boat oaring, selling physical labour, black marketing, trafficking, etc. IDO has been trying to improve the social, economical and cultural conditions f these poor people through implement the above-mentioned activities. But present supports are insufficient to meet the needs and demands of the poor people. So, it is difficult for us to cope with the demand of the people. Considering the needs and demands of the working areas as well as the poor people, we want to implement the above-mentioned activities intensively covering more poor and vulnerable low-lying water logged people, especially the women, disables and children. Please extend your helping hands of cooperation for well being of the poor and vulnerable women and send E-mail us your guidelines and Project Format, which will help us to get your support.
With all the best wishes and kind regards,
Sincerely yours,
Md. Mizanur Rahman,
Executive Director.
