Comments on this Honorary Consulate
My G/Grandfather Thomas Barwick Richards died on Board the Barque "Crouch Brothers"
whilst in port for rigging repairs. Many records are here in the UK. He was the Master of the vessel. One main fact is the GRO in Hull have no record of the death.I am seeking a Cert.which should have been issued by your offices.
A strange turn of events is that My GG/GF
Thomas Richards also a M/Mariner died on board the Barque"Star of the West"at the port of Coquimbo in sept.1869 & the Consulate there did inform UK GRO & I have the Death Cert.from them.
Regards, Frederick James
My grandfather John Isbester commanded the ship ROSSDHU when she was wrecked at Gatico Cove (Copper Cove), Chile, on 7th August 1898. I have seen reference to "The Court of Inquiry at Valparaiso" which was presumably conducted under the auspices of the British Consul in the following weeks or months. Does any record of the Inquiry or its findings still exist?
Does anyone know where I can obtain a list of British and Brazilian Consuls in Valparaiso in the nineteenth century?
