no one cares
The problem is that no one answers our call when we try to speak about our problems . I used to renew my family's passports here in Dubai and now we cannot leave or travel or speak to anyone as the passport is still in Germany although they charged my Credit card on June 19th ???

Düsseldorf passport office now closed for the public.???
I am also living in Germany and my passport will need renewing.I was told rather than sending it by post it would be best and safer to hand my paperwork and forms personally at the Düsseldorf office. It is anyway NOT SECURE writing on the envelope "passport office"everyone knows what is in the envelope.I have been living in Germany for over 30 years now and have never had problems before. Why is everything getting so complicated in the UK.The German people get a passport + ID card within 3 weeks and it costs only a 3rd of what we have to pay.We need identity papers living here and it is not allowed to travel in Germany without some sought of ID.It is about time that all these complaints are dealt with by the British Embassy. The passport office in Düsseldorf should stay open for the public. We expect a decent service.

Helpful tips
Having sent my passport off for renewal 4 weeks prior to my travel from Dubai, I did have some initial jitters after reading some of the horror stories on this website.

I sent an email with my concerns to consular.section.duesseldorf@fco.gov.uk

I had an immediate reply to let me know that they were unable to debit my card (something to do with, debit cards issued in Dubai cannot be used for online transactions) and suggested I either use another card or use a 3rd party card.

The card issue was sorted out via emails in a couple of days and the staff monitoring the above email were most helpful and efficient. As promised my renewed passport arrived today 2 weeks before my journey

I recommend that if anyone has any enquiries then they write using the above email and you should get an immediate response on the status/progress of your application with helpful advise

Also, to be fair the website had advised that one should ensure the cards being used to pay the fees has enough funds and can be used for online transactions. A simple call to your bank should confirm this and avoid delays

Delayed Passport
I applied for my daughters British Passport renewal three weeks ago. At the time their website said to allow up to four weeks for a renewal. I booked my flights for just over four weeks after I send it off. I check their website again today and it now says due to high demand please allow up to six weeks for a renewal from the date payment is taken. They took the payment two weeks after it was posted so we are really talking about eight weeks for a passport renewal. This is totally unacceptable and considering we are in a foriegn country and unable to leave until the new passport arrives I feel totally trapped. To make matters worse if I want to speak to someone regarding when the passport is likely to arrive I have to pay a fee on my credit card and when I tried to call my local embassy in Dubai, the phone were no working. This was alos stated on their website as though it was totally normal for an Embassy no to have a working phone line. I am very dissapointed and frustrated. Totally unacceptable!

extremely dissapointed
I needed a passport renewal.
Communication - I tried for 8 days solid, to gain a voice conversation with my Consulate General.
The exchange is on an Automatic Tape, reccomending the silly website.
Their "magic" over complicated website, sends you through links from page to page telling you all possible, but nothing relevant.
Their 0900 service does not work, it is set on permanent engaged.
According to their website, they have no Email address available.
(I found the "hidden" one, which is not official!)
Privatisation - The very impertinent private firm, that now does the processing, blankly refused me all information about my post.
In Germany, it is not normal practice AT ALL to pay for calls per credit-card, whilst on your own private phone. (except by the SEX industry) and borders on CRIMINAL FRAUD. An excellent advert for customer service!
In addition, British citizens in Germany DO NOT carry Visa or Master Credit Cards.
This is a mythos. Most of us have Sparkasse Debit-Cards or equivalent.
(how simple it would have been, to adapt to the country they are representing in and accept Maestro.)
I have now found out, that the application is lost, with money and documents.
So the drama begins again and probably worse.
I suspect the Consulate itself is empty, except of course for the janitor and the inevitable "Trade and Commerce" guy.
I will follow McDonald and sue them.
I am sick of this, to the marrow.
I have struck the Union flag which flew in my garden and am seeking German nationality (at 66 years of age)
The UK has messed up a lot, but DONT EVER neglect Customer Service in Europe or they will crucify you.
There is a much larger problem hidden here, than anticipated.
Certainly not British and not acceptable.

Copy to all newspapers and TV stations.

My Daughters Passport Renewal is overly delayed
Having lived and obtained several British passports for myself and my children from the local Consulate in Dubai over several years in an easily managed and trackable way, I am not impressed with the new system of having to send our passports for renewal to Germany. Payment for my daughters British passport renewal was taken over 4 weeks ago (the maximum time we were told it would take to get her new passport sent back), and I've just received a call from an Abu Dhabi no. saying its from Germany (??) and that they will start my daughters passport renewal today!! I should have received it back yesterday at the max! Im also advised that her old passport wont come back at the same time (we requested it to be returned as it contains her valid UAE Resident Permit). Im told I may get both the new and the old ones back in a week or so? This jeopordises our family vacation and all costs paid if we cant travel with all our children. My daughter continuing school in the middle of her GCSE's is now also on the line if I cant produce her UAE resident permit within next few days! Its a ridiculous, delayed system that doesnt stick to the timelines its committed to. I dont even have a reference no. to quote to follow up where my daughter's passport is. There are serious flaws in this new system that need to be addressed immediately and rectified. Not happy at all & highly inconvenienced. I fail to see how this new system is for the better or more British customer-oriented, and judging by other comments, I'm not alone! Not what we expect at all.

Waiting for my baby's passport for over 6 weeks
I am shocked beyond belief that the British consulate makes you pay on your credit card to speak to a member of staff about your application. It is an absolute disgrace. i have never in my life had to pay to find out where something I am paying for is or to speak to customer services. What makes it worse is they couldn't help me anyway, all they could do is say, your application is being reviewed. Meanwhile my baby has no passport and we cannot travel with her. I worry for the people who cannot afford to pay for this service - it's just disgusting. Not proud to be British at this stage AT ALL.
