Visas
I entered Ukraine at Odessa and then several days later took a flight to Simferopol. My flight took me through Istanbul as a transit passenger for 45 minutes. I was refused permission to rejoin my itinerary to Crimea at the airport in Istanbul because my visa was single entry.
I took advice from both the airline (Turkish) and Ukrainian passport control in Odessa. They advised that as I was not entering Turkey and was a transit passenger that there was no problem. And on this basis took my baggage and sent it to Simferopol. I was allowed to proceed.
I find myself stranded in Istanbul at the weekend with no chance of requesting another visa for Ukraine before Monday.
The airline was (belatedly) helpful with my temporary arrangements in Istanbul and admitted that the advice given was poor.
But the ultimate arbiters in this matter, Ukrainian Passport control, did not give correct advice. Had they done so I would have refused to board the flight . They were well aware of the visa I held and even commented that perhaps I could have caught a train! But there was never any question that I could not proceed then and there through Istanbul in transit to Simferopol. I specifically asked about this point.
