The first buddhist contact was in 1883 when 2 japanese monks came to SL to study Buddhism.Probably the first Japan Sri Lanka connection. The first Kozen Gooneratne, was the first japanese thervada priests. He was from Yokohama. The second was shaku soen who took Zen Buddhism to America. They were sponsored by Mudaliyar E R Gooneratne from Atapattu Walawwa Galle. This is forgotten history that must be used in promoting tourism. Attempts to get people in the tourist industry and Srilankan airways have failed. Having meetings in Tokyo without exploiting the Sri Lankan Japanese relationships is a waste of time. It is not the Ambassador or the Sri lankan airways chairman that will be visiting SL it is the japanese public and for them this history matters. Pl be good enough to pass this email to His Excellancy the Ambassador and the Sri Lankan airways chairman.
