Tourist Visa
After reading all the above posts, now I am worried. I am planning to apply for my tourist visa on monday that is 14th April 2014, and my travel date is 26th May 2014. Is the embassy delaying all the visa applications? If thats the case, I am worried if I'll get my visa before my travel date or not.

thanks SA consulate
I had applied for my visa on 22 feb and got it on 12th march, a day before my journey.
Key to this: inspite of the backlog, kept mailing the consulate and also submitted a letter to expedite the process at the VFS centre clearly stating the days left for my journey in bold

visa delay
we have sent all relevant documents and an application was sent in on 31 January 2014 and have heard no answer of yet! this is really casting a dark gloomy shadow over south africa's consistency, credibility and is an embarassment.

Follow it Up
I have been following blogs on this page for a while now. I had also applied for tourist visa on 4 March 2014 at Mumbai consulate and my travel date is 13 April 14. My visa was finally approved yesterday. I am not sure if what I am suggesting will work but here is what I did to help my cause.....Calling up the consulate a few times I was asked to write a mail to visa officer... I did send a couple of mails stating my date of travel and that it is approaching near and highlighted my date of travel and the fact that I will loose a substantial sum of money if visa was not issued. I finally received my visa on the day I sent my second mail. E mail id of visa officer is wiidd@dirco.gov.za..... You can also try sending a letter to VFS addressed to Visa Officer to expedite your case. Hope it helps. All the best.
