I am embarrassed to say that I too have been scammed. she approached me with the same story that she was robbed and is trying to get to Ecuador. She is a fat lady, about 160 cm in height, sandy shoulder length hair and speaks English well.
Just got scammed by the infamous Petra Nella, today at Plaza Vea in Salaverry Mall (about 1pm). Story was everything was stolen, just lost her husband of 18 years, and had to catch a bus to Quito in 40 minutes where help awaited her. Because, according to her, there was no South African embassy in Peru. She was crying and well, the story was very compelling. So we "helped" her, and as she left Plaza Vea with our money to grab a taxi to the bus station to catch said bus (ha), it occurred to me... let's make sure there isn't really a SA embassy here in Lima.
And so, here I am, in hopes I might spare another kindhearted soul the sharp forehead smack of stupidity that I'm now giving myself. I informed the security post at the mall about her, what she looks like etc. This lady is bad news and I hope she gets nabbed by la policia soon.

Hi just to further re eterate the message by John above. She wanders around various areas - plaza Norte and the environs and tells the same story for money. I am a Mormon and told her the church can help if she can prove her membership then she started another lie about being a member of the church. This lady is really weird and is a pathalogical lier. we left her withwith 20 soles.
