Refusal of Application for South African Visa
Dear Sir,

I submitted an application (Ref No. SALA/080312/0162/01; Receipt No. YWDVMS6) for a South African visa to your Embassy in Lagos through VFS global, your agent for visa purposes.

The application was submitted on the 8th of March, 2012, to allow me travel to your country and the United Kingdom (which I had a visa for at the time of my application to your Embassy) during my annual vacation, which ran from March 5 to April 2, 2012. My holiday was planned within a very short time due to the delay of Management in my office in approving my annual vacation, as such I contemplated visiting the United Kingdom alone, since i had the visa for that country. However, information from your website, which stated that your country’s visas were processed within six (6) days convinced me to submit an application for your country’s visa.

Unfortunately, despite repeated demands for my passport from the officials of VFS, I did not have my passport back to hand until April 24, 2012, at which time my annual vacation had ended, thereby denying me of the opportunity to travel abroad for my annual vacation. The decision of the officials of your Embassy to unreasonably hold on to my passport for such a long period of time saddened my heart a great deal and it was even more disheartening to find out that my application was refused for the simple reason of contradictory information submitted, without giving details of the documents containing the contradictory information or the details of such contradiction.

The notice of denial stated further that if I wish to re-apply, I should attach all the required documents, without specifically requesting for any corroboratory or additional document or identifying any document as unsatisfactory. In my opinion, the said notice of denial appears to be a standard template, that an official of your Embassy inadvertently adopted as an excuse to deny me a visa that I clearly deserved, as same was certainly not applicable in my case. I would have imagined that the notice of denial will list the documents containing the contradictory information as well as the details of the said contradictory information and a request that such information be clarified. This in my opinion will have afforded me the right fair hearing which is the hallmark of any sane and civil society.

As the evaluating officer of your good Embassy may have noticed from my passports , I have previously traveled on numerous occasions to the United Kingdom, France, United Arab Emirates and the United States of America, among other countries (all of which are undoubtedly better than your country), accordingly travelling to your country is not as important as imagined by the officials of your Embassy.

Quite apart from the above, it may interest you to know that I have never been denied a visa to any of the above listed countries or any other country in my entire life time, I therefore find it ridiculous that South Africa will be the first country to deny me a visa for an extremely flimsy reason, which is not backed up by any evidence.

Consequent upon the above and specifically for the following reason, I am utterly displeased and disappointed with your Embassy and its officials:

1. 1. My passport was unreasonably withheld for such a long period of time despite repeated demands;

2. 2. I was denied the right to travel abroad to enjoy my annual vacation after a long period work with vacation;

3. 3. The denial of my application for an unjustifiable and flimsy reason;

4. 4. The extremely poor quality of service rendered and the time wastage at the VFS during my application.

Even though I do not intend to ever re-apply for a visa to your country, I intend to write an official letter of complaint to the High Commissioner in Abuja, respectfully pleading with him to look into the issues listed above and request him to take steps to remedy same for the sake of other persons who may be interested in applying for your country's visa, for want of a better country to visit.

Regards,

Segun Oshikoya
