Comments on this Consulate-General
I was born in Portugal, but became a Canadian Citzen when I was 6. My children now adults were born here in Canada, can you please advise the process of getting my children dual citzen.
I'm Portuguese, have property in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Power of Attorney to be sent to my lawyer in Sao Paulo. Will Consulate General of Portugal make it for me? Need urgent answer. Thank you,
I am a Canadian, born in Toronto. My parents were born in Portugal, but are now deceased. What documentation of theirs would I need to acquire, and how would I go about obtaining it to start the process of duel citizenship for myself?
Never had to file in Portugal. Things changed and now I am late in filing since 2008, 2009, 2010and 2011.
Can I, may I resolve this matter from here?
Can I pick up forms and necessary paper work and file from Canada?
Sincerely and so much grateful for an elucidation on this matter.

I actually went through this process. It is not cheap. And it takes a while.
- First, you have to register your kid's birth with the Portuguese government. In order to do this, I had to get the long form for my kids birth certificate. This can be done online and costs approx $40 and it gets mailed to your address.
- Second, I had to get my marriage certificate (long form). I paid another $40. This is done on the same website as the birth certificate.
- Then I had to get my husband's birth certificate from Portugal. The Portuguese Consulate can do this online when you are there. If it is used for their purpose, there is no charge, otherwise, there is a fee.
- If your kids are minors, the cost is nominal (or maybe nothing), but my kids are over 18, so by the time I finished doing this for 2 kids, I had dished out approx $750. And that only got them to the point of having their Portuguese birth certificates . If you want the passport, that is extra.
Oh, and the Canadian Consulate does not accept cheques, credit or debit cards for amounts less than $250 (I think). So you need cash with you.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
My grandparents and father were born in Portugal and im looking to getting duel citizenship.. how do i go about this what informantion do i need? im extreamly unaware of this process and i need help :)
