To all those who take great delight in flogging Denzil and Shayne for their opinions and contribute absolutely zero to this forum! If you are so well informed and know-it-all, why the heck do you come to this forum? Either to seek answers or just stir the boiling pot and rattle everyone. We are all human.. Denzil and Shayne included!!! nobody is infallible!!! Rules can change. Nothing is permanent and nothing should ever be taken for granted even if we are genuine Goan applicants who think we are entitled to Portuguese citizenship as our birthright. We must all come together and share useful info instead of just thrashing about like crackheads

Thanks Denzil, even i did a bit of research online and got this info, where there's no mention of objecting nationality to Goans whose parents are registered and its clearly explained. Just translate the page and its done!

John - I can't find it online, but that law doesn't apply to Goans who's parents are registered.

It only applies to grandchildren. It is to help people from Mozambique etc who's grandparents were portuguese. They already speak portuguese

You fail to grasp the reason who portugal offers nationality to Goans.
It is because we were forcefully stripped of our nationality by India.
There is a separate section in Portuguese nationality law for Goans.
This section is unaffected.
Portugal will never stop Goans from applying. They treat us as portuguese people who are trapped in a foreign hostile country by force.
Of course, they only want to give citizenship to genuine Goans and not fraudsters.

Your agent is simply making you panic. The agents benefit if you're tensed, since they can then extract more money from you, under various scenarios.
Don't just blindly believe anything they tell you.
Most Goan agents are unsure of rules themselves.

Jack - It won't affect you. Don't worry.

There is some misunderstanding here either the lawyers And agents are talking nonsense or Denzil has got it wrong. The idea behind this is to cut the number of applicants applying for nationality it's not about grandparents or parents being registered.

my agents has told me the same thing that the rule can be applied anytime and it's for the third generation only.

There's no issue to learn a language but according to the rule my process in 2nd generation and not 3rd! and also as u said earlier even if its 3rd generation and already in process then it wont be affected. it applies only for new applications which will enter the CRC

Hi Denzil,

My dad was born before 1961 and we registered his birth without registering my grandparents. The CRC only asked for my grandparents births and marriage certificates. With all this my dads birth was registered, and then marriage and now my process is ongoing. so will it affect with new rule?

New Rules
I think people have misunderstood.

This rule will most likely not affect Goans.
From what I understand, this is only for Grandchildren of Portuguese citizens.
Meaning, if a grandchild is directly applying for citizenship without first registering his parents or his parents can't be registered due to some problem. Or the parents don't want to be registered.

So if every single generation is registered it shouldn't be an issue.

Just make sure if you're third generation, you first register your parents.

You should know that when you apply as a child of Portuguese citizen born abroad, there is no way you can be refused. You don't have to prove additional links. Portuguese citizenship is your birthright.
