requesting for historicl materials
i am a writer of culture and history for the Provincial Tourism & Cultural Office of the Province of Surigao del Norte.

Portugal had a significant impact in the historical development of Mindanao, and Surigao, as it asserted sovereignty from the Moluccas from 1512 to 1540s. Surigao became a landing post from that Island, thus its influence in names, history and culture are discernible to the cognizant until today.

In this connection, we would like to request available materials from your agency or any other agency that you may recommend, that can promote tourism for our Province.

In addition, we also request assistance to find out the possible Portuguese origin of the names of our place, particularly SURIGAO and the island of SIARGAO, and SAPAO, which appears to be associated with Portuguese origins.

We assure you of our hospitality should it occur that your office may visit our place.

Respectfully yours,

JOSELITO M. RAMIREZ JR
