First time I tried reaching the Phil. Consulate General Office (in San Francisco) for important agenda that needs immediate attention. I am disappointed to know that you can hardly talk to anybody there: not even in the extensions the voice prompt gives.

Poor country! Nothing has changed in its bureaucratic structure but inept and old ineffective system. Is there hope for those hired by the Phil. gov't to serve its people to the best of their abilities?

Fees, etc. coming to United States
I have met a lovely lady and, thus far, this is what has been accomplished: She has a valid passport, I sent $375 for Visa and $475 for health insurance for a year in US; I am in process of booking airline reservations one-way to US. Now, we are told by the P. Embassy that she has to have $1,000 to show at the airport in case she needs that money to live on while here. We expect to be married during the 30-day visa period and lives with me in the US. I believe we would have to complete additional forms for her to stay permanently. However, P. Embassy there says they can get cheaper air fares if they book her reservations. Is this whole procedure correct? I have been told the embassy cannot book reservations. Can I somehow use a credit card to represent the $1000 the embassy says she needs before boarding the flight to the US? I want to be assured these expenses have all been necessary and we are not being scammed. Thank you. Please reply to afilloramo@aol.com.

thank you for taking in the refugees
I am so grateful to the Philippine government for being willing to take in the desperate refugees from Bangladesh and Myanmar who have been abandoned at sea by traffickers. According to reports some have been at sea for several months without enough food and water. Many have died. No other country was willing to take them. I applaud your humanity and hope your example will encourage other countries to step up in this crisis. Thank you, thank you.
