Hi Irina,

You might have to go to Singapore to change it there first to singapore or US dollars which then can be easily changed to ringit once in Malaysia.

I know it may be difficult but you may have to take the train into Singpaore for that, just for a day or two. If you do not have a cheap hotel to stay, I would recommend the hotel 81 chain of hotels which is the cheapest that I stayed at while in Singapore. You have one of them in almost every saburb. I stayed in the Geyland one but you can choose others and costs will slightly vary with location. Rates will be cheaper on weekdays or off peak periods(holidays) in a standard room.

The advice to PNG travellers coming into Malaysia is to convert Kina to US dollar or some other major world currency before coming. This is because the money changers in Malaysia do not have PNG Kina due to general lack of demand for the PNG Kina in Malaysia.

Thanks
