safety
My wife is from Mazatlan. We go there fairly often and will live there when I retire. Actually I feel safer there than in most cities in the US. Most of the negativity is from people that do not or have not visited Mexico. You hear the same negativity abput the U.S. from other countries.

Safety in foreign countries
If you read and believe our state departments reports on tourist safety in other countries just know the good ole USA has not been the safest place to travel or live for almost as long as the worst countries in Africa we simply do not punish the criminals anywhere close enough for any semblance of a deterrent to any type of crime. As for mexicos drug wars remember our own problems during prohibition so in reality just follow the money when cartels, police departments, and even the army has considerable stake in that trillion $ industry. A few innocent bystanders do get caught up in it but really it's gang vs. gang warfare same as anywhere there is a drug trade. Want to see no crime at all just visit the countries that are ruthless in the punishment of their few surviving criminals

Mexico is safe
To all you idiots saying Mexico is bad, you're either scared or haven't been. I just got back Sunday. Was there for about 3 weeks. Went to Mexico City, Monterey, Huasteca, and other places. They target people who have money and show off their clothes n cars.
Which is why I just drive a truck down there.
