I'm a Malaysia citizens. I plan to visit Ventiane, Loas for 4-5 days. Do I need to apply travel visa or apply visa on arrival at the airport?

I am a Malaysian citizen planning to visit Laos for a government official meeting from 9 - 15 June 2014. I was made to understand that visa is not required for Malaysian to enter Laos.
But is it a requirement for my passport to be valid for at least 6 months upon entrance to Laos? My passport expiry is by Oct 2014.
