AFRICA MUSICAL ARTS CENTRE

"Poverty Eradication to Children Living on the Streets of Masvingo through Music"
Africa Musical Arts Centre is a grouping of music people in Africa. It started a project in Masvingo, Poverty eradication on children who live on the streets by imparting music playing skills to the street children. The approach is taking a dimension of giving skills rather not gifts, handouts or coins the children living on the streets. We started with 6 mbira and 2 box guitars. The children are now able to play some few tunes. The children are now developing strong interest to the project. They are five focal people helping these kids. However we are now appealing help in Music Instruments like Keyboards, Marimba, recorders, trumpets, drum set and guitars. We have already decided to donate our time and skills to the project. Amongst ourselves we have different music specialist and we are aiming to give value to these children who are living on the streets. We are also having a record of these kids so that as we progress we are aiming to retracing and reconnecting them with their respective communities. Our worry is a number of projects have been done with special emphasis on getting the number or statistics of these children or getting to know why are they on the streets which I am sure at this point a lot now know it is mainly poverty and weakened homes, socially, economically, emotionally and physically. The main agenda of our project is to give some life skills and provide primary socialisation to these children living on the streets.
