Taxis & Migrants
We were in beautiful Budapest last month and loved it. We had a few taxis try to overcharge us too. I would recommend negotiating a fee up front, but time is money so don't worry about a few dollars.

Also, I would like to express my support and admiration for Hungary for trying to stop the out of control wave of migrants that are a threat to European sovereignty. Perhaps Hungary's intelligent response will wake up other countries to stop the insanity of inviting & supporting millions of unwanted (and non-assimilating)folks to Europe. Europe already has enough problems and doesn't need to invite anymore trouble. Hungary's rational response gave me hope that other governments will stop ignoring the will of the people. God bless.

Hoping to reach the Hungarian Consul in Chicago re: EU Film Festival
Hello--

My name is Lori Hile, and I'm the Outreach and Media Coordinator for the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago. Our 18th Annual European Union Film Festival (the largest celebration of new EU films in North America) starts next week, and we have two films from Hungary represented: FOR SOME INEXPLICABLE REASON and WHITE GOD. We have some tickets to pass along to the Consul or Honorary Consul in Chicago--as well as some of our schedules, which list all of our EU films. Is there still a representative in Chicago? If so, who? Please advise!

Thank you,
Lori

New U.S. Ambassador
Please accept my apologies for the soap opera producer, Colleen Bell, being named ambassador to your country. I hope your people understand the general American public has greater respect for your nation than this appointment may display. I hope you will be patient, and teach her a few things about your importance to Europe, the U.S., and the world.

Looking to Obtain Dual Citizenship
Simply wondering if its possible to apply for dual Hungarian-American citizenship without the original birth certificate of the person you are tracing your Hungarian blood line to?

My girlfriends father was born in Hungary, came to the US in 1957, and now she wants to apply for citizenship. They still have his INS paperwork but no birth certificate. If you have any advice please, please email me at mhhintz@gmail.com

Thank you!!

Taxis in Budapest
Joseph,

We too had a bad experience with a taxi but we simply didn't pay the driver. He wanted to charge us some astronomical amount and we simply didn't pay him. Just happened that a police officer was walking by and soon as we called him over the taxi driver just took off.
Do NOT use the taxis in Budapest, use the shuttle bus!

Budapest taxis fleecing tourists
I have been a frequent international traveller, especially Europe, since 1968. I have only had two bad taxi experiences, Prague and now Budapest. A man with a "Taxi license" conned me into paying 4 times what I should have paid from the train station to the hotel. Taxis have no meters and the government authorities seem to wink at the fleecing of tourists by taxis. I feel stupid at having been fleeced but most of my travels in the past ten years have been Switzerland, Germany, Austria and France so I was too trusting.

Why don't the authorities take steps to protect tourists from fraud?
