The procedure goes through the Family Court closer to you. They will advise you on how to represent yourself to file the divorce. It is a lot of paperwork that needs to be done and you will need the service process server person, to be the eyes of the court while handling back and forwards paperwork from the person in Guatemala. It is the law to send all t
he paperwork to the person in Guatemala however if he doesn't respond it will be a by default divorce. The option of paying an attorney is always there however the process will still take time and is the same, except that it is handled by an expert.I wish you the best.
I am a US citizen and married in Guatemala, under unfaithful circumstances. My ex and I have been separated almost two years now, and I am engaged in the US. My fiancé and I want to pursue marriage but I'm not sure if my marriage from Guatemala is acknowledged here, if so how do I go about getting it dissolved or a divorce? Please help.
