Rude and incompetent
The employees here are bullies. They are rude and incompetent. All the comments posted here are true. They don't answer calls and they yell at you if you ask for something. Who in the world works for three hours a day, from 10am to 1 pm. The lady who deals with the passports should be fired for the way she treats people. She kicked someone out of the office because they were holding a coffee cup. It is rude and ignorant people like these employees that give the whole country a bad reputation. They should be fired.

Cutbacks versus Plain Rudeness
I've dealt with the Consulate a few times. I will try and be civil and agree that cutbacks may slow down the process. However, cutbacks have nothing to do with the plain rudeness shown by most of those employed by the Consulate. You try and call...no answer, you send them an email...no answer unless you follow up a few times, you take time off and visit their office to ask a question or two and they look at you like your keeping them from their afternoon nap! There should be no reason for a Greek senior who walks in to ask a few questions to be spoken down to and intimidated because they didn't understand the first time (my aunt came across this type of behavior). Lets not forget that the consulate is there to assist and service the Greek population in Toronto....period! I know at times as Greeks we are hot headed and may be a bit to aggressive for the Consulate but it seems that things get heated up simply because of the treatment people are getting from some of these employees. Perhaps management can take note of some of these comments and like most government services out there try and implement a better and more efficient process. I lived in Greece for 17 years and did a 2 year term in the Greek army which placed me at the 2 farthest military bases from my city but I proudly served my country with no hesitation! All I ask is that the Greek population of Canada be respected by their country (the Consulate) when seeking assistance.

email address
Your website does not exist. I called for an appointment last week and I am still waiting for a call back, Every time you type in the email address it automatically goes to Google and nothing about the consulate shows up.The heading at the top of the page says THE MOST ACCURATE SOURCE FOR EMBASSY INFORMATION what a JOKE. Lets see if we can get people that will actually call you back when they should.

Most Ignorant Staff!
I called today and spoke to the most ignorant women at the Greek Consolate. I felt I was back in Greece. I lived in Greece for 17 years. I had issues with certain government organizations but, I was never spoken to in such a bad manner. I do not speek greek very well so I asked this lady to repeat what she had said. Well... I guess they only expalin things once there... she said I do not have time to explain things to you BUT in the most ignorant tone.. and then said I have people waiting cant talk to you all day. Then she started talking to the people that were waiting at the embassy saying.. this one thinks I have all day. So Rude.. I did get her to explain eventually after a long struggle. I called my lawyer and asked him if there is another embassy that could do the job and he said call the one in Montreal.. OMG what a difference... the lady was so kind and helpful ... busy as hell ... but still very helpful and did not mind repeating something if I did not understand. NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO TO THE CONSOLATE IN TORONTO>>>

Recommend Vancouver Office
Ok, I just discovered that if you have simple questions, it is better to call the Vancouver office because they actually answer the phone. Again, the man who answers the phone there is rude and lazy but at least he will answer your question-eventually. The woman that I spoke to from there is very pleasant and was thoroughly helpful-I wish I could deal with her all the time.

I feel badly recommneding you call Vancouver because now they will likely get way more calls- but it was professional and informative- hope this helps someone...

Rudeness usually covers up incompetance
Take half a day off so we can do your job?!?! what an ignorant insult!!!! If I said that to my clients they would tell me to screw myself and go elsewhere- but you know you have your people by the B- -lls. I had to fly all the way to Toronto becasue I don't have a consulate in my city and this office was still rude and unprepared and I have to fly back again because evidently they haven't entered the modern world of electronic communication- or even answering the phone! Dealing with you has cost me over $6,000 in flights, time off work and accomodations, and I anticipate the more of the same before my paperwork is finalized. Shame on you for assuming everyone who comes to your office is from Toronto or has the finances or freedom to take time off to deal with you!!!! On top of it all, you are rude and act with a sense of entitlement-so no sympathy here.
Maybe if you had worked harder to help your people before the cutbacks, you would not be in this position now because some people have had to wait years to get help from you.

Also, while the women I have dealt with have not been half bad (meaning in comparison to the men), the men in the office are abysmal- a clear case of old-boys syndrome from the neanderthal days. Don't you guys see these women working like dogs while you sit around "managing"? Lead by example! Pull up your boots and pitch in during the hard times like a real leader- it's either that or they can fire you and replace all of you with one woman that can do the job of ten of you. You have no shame or sense of honour.

I have recommended to one of my friends to start a business waiting in line at your office on behalf of other people accross Canada- they would be millionaires.

Re Maria's Comments on "cutbacks"
The fact is, ALL Greek government departments were well overstaffed. They should now have to work a little harder with the staff they have, and, ALL share the work load. When I was there, I noticed that the receptionist (Sophia) was working her a** off while two gentlemen were in the back office sitting and chatting. Sophia was answering phone calls (when she could) and trying to assist people at the front counter at the same time. One should not have to take half a day off, when, something as simple as having a question answered can be done on the phone. It is a matter of team effort, which, unfortunately is lacking in the Greek consulate (as in all Greek government departments). There is also a very rude woman employed there who needs to get some lessons on P.R.
Sophia seems to be the only hard working person there. Maybe if enough people enlightened the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Greece of the situation in the Greek consulate in Toronto, something positive might come out of it (even though I seem to doubt this for some reason - knowing the Greek system!!!!)
