Question about visa application
Dear Embassy of Germany in Rome,

This is Yuyang Lu, a Chinese student of Iowa State University in USA. I am currently studying in Florence right now, holding an Italian visa. I will participate in a Summer Academy Berlin program which starts in May 31st and end in late June, and I have few questions listed below regarding my visa application.

1. My Italian visa will expire on May 4th, but my study in Berlin starts on May 31, can I apply for the visa to Germany that is valid from May 4th to late June until my study in Germany ends?

2.. If I am able to extend my permit of stay in Italy after May 4th, can I travel to Germany without a German visa? Or is it possible that Italian government can issue me a permit of stay in Italy or a Schengen Visa that I can use during my study in Germany.

3. What are the documents I need from my school for the visa application?

4. Do I need to bring my permit of stay in Italy to German Consulate during application? And can I apply it through German Consulate in Firenze?

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Yuyang

Reply to Butt Imran Javid
Hi Butt Imran Javid,

If you want to work in Germany firstly you must possess the Carta di Soggiorno (Illimitata) "Soggiornante per lungo periodo - CE". Then only, you are allowed to make an application here in Germany for the Work/Stay Permit. With 2 years of Permesso di Soggiorno it's not possible. Good Luck
