Travel to Norway in 2006
I will never forget this and very much appreciate the position played by the French Embassy in giving me that Golden opportunity to visit Norway.

I received an email invite from the then Minister for Foreign Minister Norway to attend the International Conference on the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative two days prior to the travel date.

It was a Tuesday. I arrived at the Office of the French Embassy and explained my situation with all necessary information. A grumpy receptionist snapped at me telling me that I should have come to the office 1 month in advance. I tried to explain to her that I am on invite and if it was my own doing I would have come earlier but this receptionist would not even pay a single attention. She said if I wanted I will have to wait and see the Ambassador myself.

I really wanted to attend this conference so I sat outside by the door until the boss arrived. When the grumpy receptionist took my documents including the email invite, another person came took my passport aND advised me to pick it up the next day which was a Wednesday. My flight was to be on Thursday at 2 pm to Singapore and then onwards. On Wednesday afternoon I went to the Embassy in Port Moresby and told instruments were ready so should go get it on Thursday. On Thursday morning when I got to the office aLl was ready. I traveled in the afternoon.

Unbelievingly incredible. I salute the Embassy although I would have missed the opportunity if I had walked away after what that receptionist had told me. Time has passed but the appreciation from the depth of my heart remails as long as I remain.

The office of the PNG EITI is the result of that humbled beginning of my campaign for PNG be part of the EITI. I exposed myself at this meeting and was lead campaigner for this initiative through to the establishment of the office of the Wold Bank in Solomon Islands to provide training and assist PNG and other Pacific Island nations to implement EITI. PNG accepted to be a Candidate Country in 2013 and now operates an EITI office in the country.
