Devaraj.
Sir,
Renunciation was possible from 21.09.1981 upto 16.8.1962 only. From 21.09. 1881 the renoncants and non renoncants were all french nationals/subjects. By renunciation one adopts a family name and quits his personal law (ie Hindu, muslim etc...) to be governed by French code civil. Renonciation is irrevocable. It is a legal term meaning (cannot be cancelled) The renonciation by a person binds himself, his wife and minor children and posterity.
Option is different, At the time of de jure transfer of french India on 16.8.1962 a timelimit of six months was given to all french citizens (renoncants and non renoncants) aged 18 years, born in French India and residing either in French India or Indian Union to submit a written declaration of option in the Consulate general at Pondicherry, Optants/ renoncants conserve the french nationality
But non optsants whether renoncants or non renoncants became Indians wef 16.8.1962. For non optant renoncants, only nationality got changed, dthey became Indians, but they continue to be governed by french Code civil. Yours sincerely,
devaraj

Devaraj
Sir
Renoncant optant is french before and after de jure transfer of Fr.India to Indian Union. Renoncant non optant becomes Indian after de jure transfer. But he will continue to be governed by Code civil, like renoncant optant. If your father did not opt, he will become Indian and as a minor born in Pondicherry you will follow the condition of your father.Yours sincerely,
