My parents are residing in pondicherry still now. As per the law everyone who were born here prior to 1966 could be given French citizenship. Sir,if you want to register your marriage in French Embassy, it is at New Delhi. In Pondicherry, we have a french consulate general having jurisdiction over the former french territories of French India (Chandernagore in the State ofWest Bengal to be excluded) and over the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Union territoires of Andamand and Nicobar Islands. You have not disclosed your nationality, If both the spouses are French the marriage can be celebrated and registered according to French law in the concerned French Consulate/Embassy. Mixed marriage can be celebrated at abroad according to the law of the country. First of all, the french spouse shall apply for the certificate of fitness for marriage. It is issued after publication of banns subject to non objection by the public. In mixed marriage the Fench Consulate/Embassy has the right to enquire both the spouses before issuing the certificat de capacity. For more information your french girl friend can get from the accueil of French Conulate general the relevant forms and instructions, Yours sincerely,
Sir, as your wife was born in Pondicherry in 1964 (after 16.8.1962, date of de jure transfer of Fr. India to Indian Union)she has prove that either her father or mother was French at the time of her birth.
