Asoka
Sir,
All french citizens whether male or female, having completed their age of 18 years, save some age exception for minor and married girls, born and residing in French India (except Chandernagor) were required under the franco Indian treaty of cession of the year 1956 to make declaration of option to conserve their frecnh nationality in the CGF at Pondicherry, within six months time limit w.e.f 16.8.1962. There is no change in the french onationality of those who opted. The non optants as well as their minor children born in French India have lost their french nationality and became Indians. This is a "fait accompli". The factum of renonciation to personal law has nothing to do with the french nationality. Yours sincerely

Catrin subject. French nationality
Miss/Madam.The person who gives opinion shall not rely only on the statement of the claimant, He shall also peruse the relevant documents. In your case, you say that your grand father came from Tamil Nadu only, Therefore he was not a french citizen. So also the condition of your father born to an Indian, Before 16.8.1962 one can claim french nationality through his french father. If born after 16.8.1962 he can claim for french nationality through his french father and french mother also. Your date of birth is not known to give a correct commentary. Yours sincerely.

Mr. Vel
Sir, If your father's father and grand father were also born in Tamil Nadu or British India, your father was not a french citizen. On the contrary, if your father's amcestors were born in French India and your father in Tamil Nadu, your father not covered by the Franco indian treaty of cession, 1956 will conserve his French nationality. As you were a minor during the period of option, you are eligible now to apply for french nationality certificaste before the Greffier en chef in charge of the department of nationality of french persons born and settled out of France, Your sincerely

Sir.Madamam
If your uncle contacts in person the Etat civil section of the French consulate general in Pondicherry, he will get the proper reply. In the meantime I can say that his marriage with his own sister's daughter is prohibited in French law. If he is of Hindu origin, he can engage a French advocate in France and file a suit before the competent French Court in Paris for a declaration that his marriage is allowed in his personal law (Hindu law) and therefore it is valid. He can apply also for legal aid if he is poor. Yours sincerely,
Vel
