Mr. Ali- subject, fr,nationality,
Sir, As your maternal grand father included in his declaration of option your mother's name, then a minor, she has conserved the french nationality. I presume that she has not repudiated her french nationality on completing the age of 18 years. If so, your mother is French.
Your indian father and french mother got married under muslim custom and are having their marriage certificate issued by Andhra Government, Now they can take steps to transcribe the said marriage in the Etat civil of the competent french consulate general in India. If you were born after the said marriage you can also claim for french nationality as a legitimate son of a french mother, Tours sincerely
ALI

Miss or Mrs. You were born in Pondicherry (India) in 1982. To claim for french nationality, you must have been born in a French territory and either your father or mother must have been a french national at the time of your birth. Further as your father was born in British India in 1946, you have to prove that your paternel grand father was born in French India. You must know also whether your fatter and paternal grand father are covered or not by the Franco- Indian treaty of cession, 1956 which came into force on 16.08.1962. By this treaty all french citizens born in French India, having completed the age of 18 years and residing in French India or Indian Union, outside french India, were asked to subscrie a declaration of option in the french consulate general of France in Pondicherry within six months from 16.8.1962 to conserve their french nationality. Those who failed to do so, hecame Indians. The above provisions under the said treaty apply also to the french citizens of French India who have renounced their person statute or law. Only those who are not covered by the said treaty are trying to claim for CNF either by filiation or by marriage. Nowadays, getting fremch mationality is not an easy task. The petitioner for CNF has the burden to prove his claim with relevant documents before the Geffier en chef in chrge of nationality. He can alos file a suit before TGI at Paris by engaging a French advocate practising before the said Court. I hope you will understand your case. Yours sincerely.
