Messieurs, nous voudrions l'avoir rétablie svp dans le pays comme le sont RFI et BBC.

Public Apology to Niels Marquadt
His Excellency Niels Marquadt Anjanapara, Betafo, le 27 Mai 2009
United States Embassy
Antsahavola
Antananarivo 101 (Madagascar)

Dear M. Ambassador

I would like to convey you our full apology, on my own name and on behalf of other malagasy citizens who are making a strong stand on restoring constitutional order and ancestral values based on Fihavanana. Should you have been offended by our Ray aman-dReny (elders)/ political leaders’ verbal abuses and misconduct the way other diplomats, journalists and others had been regretfully forced to leave the country in the past.

Indeed, Fihavanana for us malagasy is not an ideology or a fantasy, it is our identity. Your extensive knowledge of our culture and tradition led you to evoke the concept of Fihavanana as an alternative to confrotations and intimidations on many occasions because you are fully aware of the importance of Fihavanana for us as malagasy and its positive impacts in times of crisis. You are also aware that it is most of all a natural peaceful behaviour based on humility, dialogue and mutual respect that allowed us move in harmony with our opponents centuries on. Undoubtfully, this behaviour protected us from tragic divisions and prevented us from experiencing civil war. Time goes by but but Fihavanana remains. It is a wisdom taught us solidarity as a people and allowed us unity as a nation.

Our Ray aman-dReny (elders), whether traditional or represented by political leaders are the light that guides us towards the wisdom of Fihavanana. And we, younger generation must make it our duty to follow the light and learn in order to humbly, transmit it in time to next generation. We are all aware we are gifted to be part of a wisdom that ties malagasy generations a lifetime and beyond. Yet today we are confused by our elders/political leaders behaviour, and their utter disregard of universal and ancestral values. And this open letter is aiming to make full public apology for our elders misconception of power and leadership and that wrongfully led them make personal attacks on respectable friends.

Indeed, we are strongly convinced that our elders are wrong and that countries like the United States, France and many others are not Madagascar’s opponents, quite the opposite, they are friends with whom we share common values whether it is on a human or democratic aspect. We should value your ongoing support and effort in developing our country. Yet our polititians regretfully tend to speak and act on their own name and not on behalf of their people nor the nation. If they did, they should know, pride and arrogance must not take over good sense and that collective interests must come before personal ambitions.

We, younger generation no longer follow the light of our elders when they show no Fihavanana towards us and our valuable and respectable friends. Nor do we trust in their wisdom when they (mis) lead us to believe « extra constitutional » is the alternative to constitutional order, terror, an alternative to dialogue and greed, an alternative to values.
Never in our history had our friends ever felt so unwelcomed in the land of Fihavanana. As a state, elders (polititians) if they no longer adhere to our ancestral values, have the responsibility and obligation to adhere to law and human rights conventions. In a democratic country ruled by constitutional order, it is not anticonstitutional to consider elections (not negotiations between political leaders), as a democratic way out a crisis and instability. And elections are what we malagasy citizens, are urging for and without delay.

We would like also to convey our concern to your government and ask that they call, for the protection of the people of Madagascar on every aspect whether it is human, constitutional, economical or environmental. Indeed, the impact of the United States economic withdrawl, in Madagascar is already dramatically affecting our livelihoods and businesses. And as a result to what recently happened in our country, and our elders’ misconception of democracy, greed and lust for power, our economy, our international reputation, and national dignity lie in pieces. Therefore, we will not turn a blind eye on what is going on in our country.

For these reasons and although it is a real challenge for us younger generation to make a strong stand on what we believe is right for our country, our people and future without our elders’ guidance, we must make it our duty to do all within our power to restore Fihavanana within ourselves and and reach out for our friends so they would not desert us. Indeed, if none of our elders are willing to show the virtue of Fihavanana based on humility, we, younger generation will because it is our responsibility to do so and also because more thane ver before, our only enemy is hunger.

You may also acknowledge the fact that, beyond the horrific and tragic scences of violence and abuses of all kinds, there is still hope as we, malagasy younger generation will not give up on our identity, our landmarks, or constitutional even though they had been taken away from us in a violent way. Nor would we allow ourselves consider lawless anarchy and chaos as the only alternative to Fihavanana nor the only perspective of a future.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity, to reach out to our elders, on my own name and on behalf of malagasy citizens who once again are making a strong stand on restoring constitutional order and ancestral values based on Fihavanana, and call upon their wisdom, vertues and good sense to quit torning our Madagascar apart.

Yours truly.

Mr Niels Marquardt

I really wonder if you are appointed by President Obama or you are simply nostalgic for George Bush.
With your behavior in our country, it is not surprising that Americans are hated around the world.
Do not interfere in our internal affairs, even if we are poor
GO HOME.
