Roman Catholic Parishpriest of the Catholic Cathedral of Ghardaïa in Southern Algeria A Sierra-Leonian migrant called Suleyman (spelling uncertain) Camara, whom I've known personally here in Ghardaïa in Southern Algeria (he was one of the volunteer gravediggers of his deceased Liberian friend Aloysius of Grand Bassa County - Liberia, who died in Ghardaïa over 1 year ago), has died in Ghardaïa while I was on mission in Burkina Faso (august-september 2014). The Sierra Leonian fellow migrants here don't have any information about his family nor his birthplace and -date, apart from Mr. Camara being a Sierra Leonian of the Mandingo community, living in a common place with Liberian and Sierra-Leonian illegal migrants here in Ghardaïa-Sidi A'baz. The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs do not allow the local Police to liberate the body of a non-Algerian (in this case a Sierra Leonian) from the mortuary for Christian or Islamic burial (in the presence of 2 policemen-whitnesses and the signature of the religious minister presiding the funeral ritual) unless either the family of the deceased or the nearest Sierra-Leonian Consulate informs the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Police of Ghardaïa that the Sierra-Leonian authorities agree to the burial of their countryman in Ghardaïa. Could you please indicate what information I should give you so that you can help us either finding the family in Sierra Leone or informing the Algerian authorities that you've no objection to Mr. Camara being buried in Ghardaïa, either in one of the Sunni-Malikite cemeteries or in the Aliens' Cemetery (also called Christian Cemetery) in Ghardaïa in Southern Algeria. To your information I can add that the Liberian Consulate in Morocco (Algeria doesn't harbour a Liberian consulate) has granted to me the status of unsalaried Honorary Consul of Liberia, with the corresponding stamping facility. Experience shows that the status of Honorary Consul (not only for Christian but also for Muslim - illegal !! - sub-saharan migrants) facilitates enormously the painful negotiations with the local Algerian Police in order to obtain the liberation of the bodies of the in Algeria deceased sub-saharan migrants, for a decent christian or islamic burial. After 3 or 4 months in the mortuary the bodies are buried in a shallow grave far away in the Algerian desert, dug by sub-saharan migrant-prisoners. At night the jackals are coming to dig up the body according to reliable whitnesses. That would be a shame if it'll happen to Mr. Camara's body !
I would like those who are reading my comment to do their utmost best sothat the Sierra-Leonian Embassador or Consul in Lybia may be informed by the content of what I've written here.
