The LA Consulate has the appropriate information in its website as to what papers are needed to get a VISA. Having been there a number of times and married, one, to an Ecuadorian lady, here's what I suggest. Get all the papers required by the Consulate to emigrate. With your standard passport go to Ecuador for an exploratory visit. If you like cool/cold then anywhere in the Andes is your spot. If you want warm/tropical you want the eastern side of the Andes (the Orient). The Manabi (north coastal) area is good. Most of your beach communities are good, but heavily populated by city dwellers on the weekends.
You only need a proven/verifiable income of $800 per month to emigrate. If you like what you see, you have all your qualifying papers with you-then hire a lawyer to do your VISA there. Same cost as in the US.

What type of VISA will we need to live in Ecuador for one year doing volunteer/service/humanitarian work?
I want to visit Ecuador this summer. Other than my passport, what would I need? Also, what would it take to move there and semi-retire/ start a small business and live out my days? The police state and corruption of the U.S have me flabbergasted. And the manipulation of legal systems and laws is terrible. Only the rich can afford justice and family courts enslave fathers, create a debter's prison and are conspiritors of human trafficing and other hanus crimes that are illegal internationally. What used to be a great country has lost it's way. It will take a few generations to correct itself and complete it's cycle so I want to give my son's and I a fair chance at a great life. Not one in a prison state.I fear our tyrannical government and can provide proof and witnesses as well as show you reciets on what it's cost to keep my kids. I can move in about 5 years and want to start preparing after my trip this summer.
Any advice on areas and places I should investigate please let me know! I plan on trying to remodel and flip homes there and maybe open a fun small resort or something, Thanks a ton folks!
