APPEAL FOR CULTURAL EXCHANGE BETWEEN OUR CULTURES
DATE—07-04-2012
NAME—Kinge Thomas Ikwle(Tata Kinge youtube/facebook)
ADDRESS—Soppo Wonganga
CITY, --- Buea-South West Region Cameroon.
Dear Friend/Sir,
I am an independent artist-musician from southwest Cameroon —a drummer, dancer, singer, and songwriter, who also directs a folklore group of traditional singers, a mask group and performing ensembles of 5-10 members (Cha Cha dance group, Oroko Dance Group) — with artistic experience of 20 years.
I live at the base of Mount Cameroon in Africa and perform a great deal in my home region; but I also see my performance work as contributing to greater cross-cultural understanding throughout the world. My recent appearance at the World Expo Shanghai 2010 in China is the most recent example. (I’ll enclose a copy of the beautiful poster they designed for the occasion.) And I will soon be traveling to the United States for the first time, to help animate the 18th annual convention of FakoAmerica, the support network for the people from tribe that lives on my mountain who are living in diaspora in the U.S. I would love to have the opportunity to perform for your audiences.
The music traditions of my culture are magnetic and infectious. I believe, as a Bantu, that Cha-Cha dance and music can become the world’s newest hits — and so far, to my delight, my international audiences agree! I hope to record new versions that can achieve the production values made possible by using better studios and facilities, an issue that I am addressing in my not-for-profit community work here at home. For now, you can see samples of my performances by following some of the links on my resume. I think some of the energy and flavor of the performances come through.
I as a solo artist and also the ensembles I can bring, if your budget will allow, can manage all aspects of cultural exchange; performances and appearances at conferences, seminars, events, workshops, and trade shows and workshops on African culture, music and dance. Our performances and other programs will help people know more about our cultures — Bakweri, Cameroon, and African.
Working solo, I use recorded music to back up my own singing, dancing and drumming: I have been assured that I can energize your audience performing on my own. Were you to request a larger group, my recommendation would be to add 3-4 dancers. (My full corps of dancers numbers 10.) Live music would involve my 6 instrumentalists which, in addition to the four dancers, would bringing the minimum total ensemble to 11. For the complete ensemble I would use at home, the total would be 17. So this gives you a range, from solo to full ensemble.
I will be so glad to have the chance to come and join you, be part of your events, and share uplifting music, dance and cultural ideas with you and your audiences. I strongly believe I have a lot to offer, thanks to the depth and richness of African culture, and I will make you proud if am given the opportunity to perform for you.
Please contact me if you have questions of would like more information. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Tate Kinge
