I am a 26 year old Optometry Graduate from the University of Limpopo, Currently practicing as an Optometrist in one of the rural areas of our province(Limpopo).
I then therefore have decided consciously after having worked for a year, to jump ship and divert to Medicine after when I saw the real shortage of medical practitioners in our Province and country at large. Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to study medicine in Cuba; for as long as I can remember I
have wanted to take part in this program. My father was in Cuba during
apartheid and as a member of the PAC he was trained in Lebanon, Libya,
China and Russia; I respect the ideals that Cuba stands for; while I was at
the University of Johannesburg I attended a lot of the Free the Cuban Five
talks at the DFC Campus of UJ.
I would like to merge my knowledge in water engineering and medicine; I
initially studied a BSc in Natural Sciences and then I did an BSc Honours
degree in Geology both from the University of Johannesburg. I am 28 now and
my vision is to be able to branch into the field of environmental medicine
which looks at the link between the environment and human health. I think
my training as a geologist and as a water engineer will allow me to be
successful in environmental medicine because I have the background; so what
is needed is the medical aspect to tie in all the knowledge. i would like
to do my MD in conjunction with a PhD where I would like to do a study of a
link between the environment and physiological human health; my idea was to
link an area with the known pollution in a river or groundwater due to
mining/natural geology with the physiological aspects of human health and
perhaps come up with a mitigation strategy.
As I have informed you in the paragraph above exactly what my intention and
the goal is overall could you please advise me as to how I can begin to
apply and thus put this vision into motion. Thank you. I look forward to

I UNDERGONE ALL THE TESTS ND THE INTERVIEW, EVEN WENT TO MEET THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF HALTH LAST WEEK, HOWEVER IM STILL VERY UNSURE ABOUT EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY THE SELESTION. ANY INFORMATION WOULD HELP SUCH AS DEPARTURE AND CRITERIA.
