A TRANSGENDER IN NEED OF URGENT ASSISTANCE
Dear All.

Hope you are all doing well.

Maua Sadick Chuwa (prefers to be called Morris) was born a transgender in 1991, being 8th out of 10 children in the family. Stayed with the mother till the age of going to school. While she was in standard four, her mother passed away, and that was a new chapter in her life and the start of problems, as all 10 children were not from the same mother.
Before her mother died, her mother accepted the way Maua behaved, but dad did not like it, as he wanted Maua to behave as a girl, which Maua (Morris) did not like.

Dad seeing Maua behaving like a man, decided not to provide any type of parental obligation, like paying schoolfees, exercise books, food, and the only thing she ( Maua) got from her dad was shelter. In the year 2004, Maua got good results which enabled her to continue with secondary school studies at Ruvu Secondary School. Thinking that maybe her dad could change the attitude towards her because of her good performance in her studies, but to contrary. Since she had no assistance of any kind from her dad, opted to start stealing other students belongings in order to get her basic requirements, such as exercise books, pads to use during her menstrual periods, pocket money, soap etc. Due to the problems stated above, Maua could not manage to perform well in her final secondary school examiniations, hence not to continue with higher school studies.

After completing secondary school education, Maua went home where life was very horrible day after a day. Things went worse, one day when the housegirl went on leave leaving behind Maua and her father, that was when the father used that chance to break the door to Maua's room and wanted to rape her. Maua's dad failed to rape her as she was smart enough at defending herself. After that failure, Dad thought that maybe Maua (Morris) could reveal it to neighbors, then chased her from staying at home. She evacuated her bed and her clothing of which were kept in the neighborhood, and that was the start of Maua's terrible and horrible life. Since then Maua is always on streets, which has made her turn to drug use.

Challenges/Problems:
1. Lack of shelter, drives her to use cannabis, and other drugs so that can fit in other drug using groups.
2. Stigmatisation by the community the way she is; she ties tight her breasts to enable her fit in men/boys group.
3. Lacks job to earn her money for her living ( food, shelter and clothing).

Needs;
i. Essential needs like shelter, food and clothing.
ii. Continue with education
iii. Needs surgery to remove breasts.
iv. Share experinces with other people of the same type ( transgender).

We, at Centre for human Rights Promotion, have decided to extend our support by contacting various organisations so that they can assist in any way they think is fit.

Regards.
